Please review the job details below.Maxar is seeking a Principal Software Systems Engineer-Safety to join our Software Engineering Team in early to mid 2023. Our team has a broad spectrum of interfaces and responsibilities and we follow the Software Engineering Process modeled after the NASA 7150.2 Software Engineering Requirements. In this role, you will support our organization on multiple programs as a Software Systems Engineer with a focus on safety critical software efforts. The ideal candidate must be an eager learner. In this role the engineer will support program safety teams for various hazard analysis and act as the lead expert for safety between the Software Engineering Group and the rest of the company. This role requires interaction with the customer, systems engineering and various functional software organizations including Ground Software, Flight Software and Simulations Software. We are seeking an experienced candidate with a proven track record of working independently in a fast-paced environment and whose work ethic reflects facts-based action and collaborative problem solving.Responsibilities:Lead software safety effort for multiple programs, including NASA PPEIdentify software causes and controls to hazards during build, test, launch, and space operations.Partake in technical design reviews, integration, testing, and documentation effortsWork with program safety teams to develop and refine Hazard AnalysesIdentify cyber threats and develop suitable defense measures.Perform Software Safety Analysis in accordance with NASA STD 8739.8a and 7150.2, SWE-134Work within the Software Directorate to develop, deploy, observe and respond to Intrusion Detection System (IDS) cues, Penetration Tests and participate in assurance tasks for product related (Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) alert responsesSupport Configuration Control Board for software specifications safety related requirements implementation and approvalOwn organizational safety responsibilities as defied in the Software Engineering Process, Software Assurance Plans and Software Development and Management Plans for these programsMentor and train other Software Systems Engineers on Software Safety role and responsibilitiesPerform assurance activities against the Risk Management Framework (RMF)-based policies and procedures. Work within the Software Directorate to help develop and keep up to date comprehensive cyber security processes and associated assurance activities.Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, related field, or equivalent experience
  • 15 years professional related work experience with at least 10 years in software systems engineering
  • Minimum of 5 (subset of total experience) years of related software safety experience using NASA, DoD or FAA standards
  • Have extensive experience in managing Requirements Analysis, code development and software V&V methodologies
  • Software systems engineering across multiple interacting software CSCIs
  • Knowledge of computer software development in complex aerospace or similar environments
  • Demonstrated experience in technical management of complex software development projects from contract award through delivery
  • Working knowledge of JAMA, DOORs or other requirements management tool
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current knowledge of technology capabilities and trends; types, and techniques of closed system hacking attacks
  • MS degree (may replace 2 years of professionally related experience) or PhD in a special field of Engineering or Science ( can replace additional 2 years of professionally related experience)
  • Experience with satellites and satellite industry, including government civil or defense and intelligence programs
  • Experience with safety critical software requirements and development methodologies (per NASA NPR 7150.3, SWE-134 and NTS 8739.8a)
  • Experience in agile development methodologies
  • Knowledge of DoD (Department of Defense) 8500 series Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes
  • Familiarity with embedded flight code design
  • Experience in the development, deployment and sustainment of a product cybersecurity capability
