Laboratory Aide

Under direct supervision, performs pre-analytical & post-analytical functions of laboratory testing. Maintains department inventory. Transports specimens & supplies.Essential Functions:

Upholds KP's Policies & Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal & local laws

Performs pre-analytical phase of testing by bar coding, centrifuging, separating, mixing, logging & transporting specimens

Retrieves specimens for repeat testing, looks for stored or lost specimens & reports

Maintains orders & inventories all supplies for their specific area or job assignment

Receives & transports laboratory reports to the appropriate areas

Properly processes bar codes & accessions specimens

Prepares specimen for transportation to outside laboratories

Documents problem specimens

Maintains & monitors database for specimens sent to outside reference laboratories

Establishes & maintains courteous & cooperative relations when interacting with the public, patients, & other personnel

Follows directives from all supervisors, leads, & seniors

May perform other duties as required

High School Diploma or GED

35 wpm or as required by facility. Typing must be current within one (1) year. Please contact Human Resources for testing.

Successful completion of orientation and on-the-job training

Demonstrated ability to perform the duties/responsibilities of the job at a fully satisfactory level of performance

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to operate an autoclave and cardboard bailer

Knowledge of chemicals used in cleaning laboratory surfaces

Able to lift 25-30 pounds.

Prior experience working in a laboratory: picking up and dispose of blood and urine

Notes:

On-Call with no guarantee of hours/zero hours; Schedule Varies.

Under direct supervision, orders, receives, inventories, and stock laboratory supplies

Performs glassware duties including autoclaving, washing, drying, and preparing sterilized glass reuse

Initiates laboratory specimen removal by pouring specimens

Managing and handling of medical waste
