Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, perform technical and maintenance duties in a research laboratory; assist with collecting and generating data from field and laboratory experiments.

Carry out experiments in the field and laboratory, assist with fieldwork involving herds of cattle; conduct laboratory procedures to generate data from experiments on collected samples;

manage data entry and databases and prepare charts and graphs involving experimental data. Order supplies; oversee laboratory safety protocols and site-specific safety training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Operate computer and peripheral equipment.

Sit in front of computer for extended periods of time.

Work in a research laboratory setting.

Work in field settings with hot, dry, and dusty conditions with exposure to cattle, animal manure, and flies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work flexible hours to meet deadlines

Work in an environment where animals are used in research.

Required :

Experience using various operating systems including but not limited to : Windows XP / 7 / 10, MS Office (Outlook, Work, Excel, Powerpoint), Endnote, ImageJ, MasterPlex, Graphpad Prism and other software packages

Knowledge of laboratory research methods including bacteriologic and immunologic methods and equipment needed to generate, collect, analyze, and summarize data

Experience with immunologic, bacteriologic, and molecular biology methods

Experience with safely working around beef cattle in / around cattle chutes.

Experience with setting up, optimizing, running, and evaluating ELISAs (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays) and determining the validity of results.

Interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills to interact and work effectively with others in a work environment and implement safety protocols.

Skills to problem solve and trouble shoot, work independently and as a member of a research team.

Preferred :

Initiative, originality, and judgement to identify scientific problems.

Experience training both technical and non-technical individuals.

Experience using independent judgement in non-routine situations, such as analysis of data and development of strategic recommendations to solve problems.
