Senior Scientist - Microbiologist

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support IVD product development through supplying / characterizing microorganisms as needed

Acquire, maintain / culture microorganisms

Apply basic molecular techniques to cultured organisms, including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, PCR, RNA / DNA sequencing

Overseeing acquisition, inventory, and distribution of clinical specimens

Write laboratory protocols and SOPs

Document experiments, studies, projects in laboratory notebook

Organize, prioritize, manage, and execute projects and experiments

Work within the established design control process for product development

Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team with other scientists, members from different departments (e.g. clinical affairs, engineering, manufacturing).

Provide data summaries, written reports and oral presentations to R&D, multidisciplinary teams

Investigate problem areas and areas of desirable improvements

Good communication skills, capable of communicating ideas to colleagues

Problem-solving skills combined with analytical skills and good attention to detail

Understanding of the commercial value of the work

REQUIREMENTS

Ph.D. in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular or closely related field with five years of relevant industry experience

Demonstrated proficiency and expertise in culturing, maintaining and characterizing microorganisms

Experience working with human infectious microorganisms

Experience working with and organizing of clinical specimens

Demonstrate technical proficiency in basic molecular techniques

Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively in a cross-functional team environment

Good communication skills, capable of communicating ideas to colleagues

Excellent analytical and troubleshooting capabilities, with good attention to detail

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

Understanding of the internal regulatory requirements of bringing new products to market

Understanding of the procedures, processes, record keeping, software systems and infrastructure of product development and product transfer is highly desirable

Experience with culturing and characterizing human infectious microorganisms

Ability to lead a small team consisting of Scientists and Research Associates
