Educational Advocate (Oʻahu)

Position: Educational AdvocateEducational Advocacy Program

Responsibilities:

1. Is an advocate in the education arena for special needs students aged 2-22 who are in the foster care system.

2. Participates in the identification, evaluation and educational programming of youth as defined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). Works as part of a team on behalf of the student.

3. Provides consistent and thorough follow up and monitoring to insure strong educational outcomes for youth.

4. Timely and concise documentation in student case records.

5. Considerable driving (with mileage reimbursement) to school sites is required.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university. Coursework in human development, social services, education, legal and educational systems.

2. Experience with children and youth with special needs.

3. Experience in the fields of education, social or legal services.

4. Excellent reading, writing and verbal skills.

5. Must be computer literate and have basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

6. Ability to work independently and consistently in a timely and organized fashion.

7. Ability to complete professionally written documentation in case records in a timely manner.

8. Ability to read, understand and apply governmental policies, rules and regulations to case situations.

9. Must have a strong commitment to the belief that students have a right to an appropriate education with measurable outcomes and to work tirelessly toward that end.

10. Must have a current driver's license, use of a registered and insured vehicle.
