Position Description:

The Community & Faith Relations Manager will help strengthen and maintain partnerships with current faith partner congregations, clergy leaders and community groups. This position will provide business development support by identifying and cultivating housing development, preservation and A Brush with Kindness service projects. The Manager is also responsible for continued development of faith fundraising partnerships, volunteer coordination, and ensuring that our policy and advocacy initiatives are being successfully integrated into our faith and community relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage NYC faith community and community-based organizations in Habitat NYC’s mission through volunteering, fundraising and advocacy

  • Organize and coordinate citywide faith and community-based organizations’ support of Habitat NYC’s advocacy campaigns and events

  • Establish new and expand organizational relationships with local faith and community groups in focus build neighborhoods

  • Manage and schedule volunteer groups and steward financial giving and granting opportunities from faith communities and foundations

  • Oversee annual special volunteer events (Building on Faith/Build for Unity and Martin Luther King Jr. Build)

  • Collect, organize and maintain community/advocacy contacts in collaboration with Database Manager

  • Coordinate faith leader involvement in Habitat’s various activities including ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, board/leadership service, and the annual Habitat House Party

  • Represent Habitat NYC in faith-based and affordable housing coalition working groups and meetings

  • Public speaking and presentations representing Habitat for Humanity - New York City

  • Support and expand the business development pipeline of Habitat NYC service and housing projects

  • Conduct community outreach to identify and cultivate new housing development, preservation and Brush With Kindness projects

  • Work with Housing Services Department to schedule and conduct outreach for homeownership info sessions in build neighborhoods

  • Increase Habitat NYC’s presence and engagement in identified neighborhoods

  • Conduct educational trainings for various support communities on occasion

  • Attend Community Boards, civic and block association events, faith gatherings, and other community-based events to build project pipeline and support network

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 1-3 years of community or political organizing preferred

  • 1-2 years working in a non-profit, faith-based or community-based organization

  • Proven success in maintaining organizational systems for tracking program information and data.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, organize and prioritize work plans, and maintain accurate records.

  • Public speaking and group training facilitation experience encouraged

  • Emotional intelligence, high energy and strong orientation towards customer service.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills: ability to articulate Habitat NYC’s mission, program objectives, and resource needs.

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills: ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and approach problems creatively.

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and basic knowledge of Outlook

  • Comfort with social media and digital communication preferred.

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, which includes evening or weekend hours.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with grassroots advocacy campaigns a plus

  • Affordable housing policy experience a plus

  • Teamwork: Participates as an active and contributing member of a team to achieve team goals. Works cooperatively with other team members, involves others, shares information as appropriate, and shares credit for team accomplishments.

Location, Hours:

This position will be located at Habitat NYC’s main office in lower Manhattan, 111 John St., 23rd Floor, NY, NY 10038. Regular hours will be weekdays between 9am and 5pm, with an hour allotted for lunch each day. Flexibility and ability to travel throughout the 5 boroughs will be necessary. Flexibility to accommodate initiatives during evenings and weekends may be required.
