Job DescriptionAs an experienced bioinformatics lead supporting product and technology development, you will bring your knowledge of bioinformatics, experimental design, and data analysis to lead and mentor a team of talented bioinformatics scientists and analysts. This unique team lead position requires a combination of extensive technical expertise in both bioinformatics and molecular biology with great cross-functional collaboration skills. The successful candidate will lead a growing team that is working across multiple development projects, supporting novel NGS assay development and deployment as well as sustaining and troubleshooting launched assays in Guardant Health CLIA environment. The Associate Director will guide analytical efforts to generate insights from experimental data for characterizing assay attributes and improving both assay and bioinformatics pipeline capability. This bioinformatics team is working very closely with the assay technology development group,enabling the culture of data driven development through in-depth analysis of experimental data. Guardant Health uses agile design and implementation practices coupled with the extensive validation and documentation required in a clinical environment. Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the technical team for the experimental data analysis in assay development, troubleshooting, and sustaining support of existing products
  • Lead the bioinformatics team through interactions with Technology Development, Software, Reagent manufacturing, Operations, and Process Engineering teams in support of assay deployment and troubleshootingin CLIA environments
  • Guide or formulate feasibility analyses, including statistical modeling or in-silico simulations drawing from a rich database of historical test results
  • Develop and execute bioinformatics analysis plans to generate insights from experimental data for both assay improvement and bioinformatics pipeline improvement
  • Write experimental protocols and engineering reports in collaboration with assay development scientists
  • Hire and grow junior bioinformatics staff on the team

Qualifications

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational biology, Genomics, or related quantitative fields
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry
  • Deep understanding of library preparation methods used to generate next-generation sequencing data, including whole-genome and methylation sequencing, targeted sequencing, and RNA-seq
  • Demonstrated experience in developing methods for analysis of experimental data in genomics and next-generation sequencing, under the context of product development
  • Strong knowledge of statistics and computational biology algorithms for genomic analysis (including statistical methods employed in analytical validation) and cancer genomics (alignment, variant calling, general multivariate statistical inference)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to foster highly collaborative environment, working with both experimental and computational scientists

Advantage if you have

  • Track record of people management
  • Experience in launching NGS based products
  • Experience in oncology NGS applications
  • Startup experience in a company or newly formed group a plus

Additional Information

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
