Job Summary
As an Optical Communications Engineer, you will lead Mission and Systems Engineering activities that make use of optical communications and active optical systems.
You will be the primary interface to a space mission team, and subject matter expert leading specification development, procurement, and testing of Laser / Optical Payloads.
You will also lead Research and Development investments in active optical sensors, as well develop automated testing and analysis tools.
Our Mission and Systems Engineers are responsible for ensuring that our missions meet our customer€™s expectations. You should have an intimate understanding of mission needs, and the ability to translate these into optical hardware and CONOPs required to complete the missions.
You will be expected to present at design reviews, manage procurement documentation (SOW, Specifications, and ICDs), maintain deep insight and troubleshoot supplier performance issues.
You will develop system level test plans, develop test procedures, and analyze and document test results.
Minimum Qualifications
Master€™s degree€ and 10+ years of working experience as a subject matter expert in optical communications, sensor system design, detectors, lasers, and associated hardware / software.
Ability to work effectively within a larger space mission team
Ability to train and mentor supporting staff
Proven ability to deliver on-time, on-budget
Demonstrated experience with rapid development projects
Demonstrated teamwork and written / oral communications skills
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate Degree related to Optical Communications and active optics systems
Concept-to-launch experience with one or more satellite missions
Experience with cost- and budget- constrained space programs
Experience with aerospace environments other than traditional, large prime contractors
Experience with Intelligence Community and Department of Defense customer communities and their project management practice
