ABS Group is a subsidiary of ABS, a leading marine and offshore classification society.The Principal Surveyor position’s primary role is to directly perform non-class survey activities in accordance with ABS Class Rules, Guides, and all statutory requirements.A Principal Surveyor may also work closely with clients on operational and service delivery issues through ongoing industry relationships as well as business intelligence gained through service/operational interaction. Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes.

Performs routine surveys on vessels, platforms, or other marine structures and at manufacturers for a statement of fact and/or compliance with statutory requirements.

Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys performed.

Maintains active awareness of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and makes recommendations for changes in the surveying processes and safety programs as warranted by such developments.

Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and makes changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary.

Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work and monitoring the quality of service on work performed.

Engages in contact with clients to resolve problems within area of expertise.

Promotes the services and capabilities of ABS Group to present and potential customers through survey operational activities and interaction.

Promote a culture of safety and safe working conditions.

Support a Safety culture as well as continuous operational improvement through the ABS Quality System.

QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Demonstrated mastery and knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and instructions, as well as all company policy with specific emphasis on the ABS Employee Safety Policy.

Demonstrated expertise in effectively executing surveys across the various disciplines.

Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and have an extensive understanding of marine and/or offshore shipbuilding and construction practices, engineering systems, structure, and vessel operations.

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability with the skill to propose and convey solutions effectively.

Client/Customerservice focused demeanor with the ability to build relationships in support ofbusiness development.

Excellentcommunication skills and English fluency, both written and verbal, with theability to conduct detailed technical and business communication/interaction ina professional role.

Knowledge of metrics based performance concepts andthe ability to manage key performance indicators to meet business outcomes

Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science, minimum a 2 year program

Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience.

Typically has 10 years of experience as a surveyor.
