Part-time Aquatic & Recreation Leader (Lifeguard Training Coordinator) (Ellensburg)

The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a part-time Aquatic and Recreation Leader (Lifeguard Training Coordinator.) This position will work approximately up to 15 hours / week. This is a highly visible position requiring an extremely dedicated individual. The person in this position will be responsible for thorough knowledge of safety practices in and around swimming pools. Thorough knowledge of lifeguarding techniques, use of equipment, and first aid care. Intelligence and reasoning ability. Ability to communicate with patrons and staff in a positive manner.

Lifeguard Training Coordinator:

This position is a lead position handling the associated duties for the KVMP staff training program.

- Assists in the development of in-service trainings

- Assist in the hiring, training and supervision of temporary part-time personnel to ensure safe operation

aquatic/fitness facility

- Assist in creating and updating program materials, policies, procedures, and running staff in-services

- Updating certifications and handling Red Cross forms

- Creating new activity and training manuals

Vacation, Holiday, and Employee Choice hours are earned on a pro-rata basis. Paid sick leave will accrue at a rate of one (1) hour for every paid 40 hours worked. Employees are eligible to begin using accrued paid sick leave on the ninetieth (90th) day after the commencement of his/her employment. This position is represented by the Office & Professional Employees Union, Local #8 and regular City OPEIU applicants will be given first consideration. This position does not receive insurance or retirement benefits.

Qualifications:

Age 18 or older

Current American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Current ARC Water Safety Instructor or ARC Lifeguard Training Instructor (or able to obtain within 6

months)

Salary: $13.50 - $15.75 /hour, approximately 15 hours per week
