The City of Santa Maria seeks a Radio Systems Administrator. This vital position is responsible for providing consistent and reliable radio communications throughout the City for Law Enforcement, Fire, Code Enforcement, Utilities, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Transit operations. Reporting to the Public Safety Senior Systems Analyst, the Radio Systems Administrator serves as a primary onsite radio technician for all radio and dispatch equipment Citywide, with over 1,000 subscriber units in Law Enforcement, Fire, Code Enforcement, Utilities, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Transit services, providing a vital service to the citizens of Santa Maria. This position is responsible for the maintenance, operation and repair of the City’s public safety radio system, conventional radio system, and microwave network, including the core system, portable radio equipment such as mobile radios, handhelds, and mobile data computers. This position will also ensure compliance with applicable standards and laws and conduct research and provide recommendations for new acquisitions.

The Radio Systems Analyst should be a forward thinking and strategic individual with experience in both 700/800 MHz P25 and VHF/UHF public safety radio systems. This position works with vendors, industry organizations, and professional and technical City staff, playing a lead role in the development of short- and long-term plans and strategies for the radio requirements of the City. As such, the ideal candidate will be highly customer service oriented, have unquestionable integrity and an enthusiasm to learn more and improve how our work gets done. We are looking for a problem solver who is proactive, agile, and personable, and can maintain a high level of composure in any situation. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, management, business administration or related field;Ideally 3-4 years of experience supporting radio communications, including at least 3 years of responsibility in Motorola trunked radio systems (planning, development, implementation and operation) Ideally, experience supporting radio systems for emergency services with a full-service dispatch and knowledge of the complex integration of radio into a 911 system.

-OR-any combination of education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the above minimum requirements. Possession of valid California Driver's License by the date of appointment.Willingness and ability to respond to after-normal workday or irregular and on-call emergency requests on nights, weekends and holidays.
