Summary:

Operates Hot Mix Asphalt plant to produce various asphalt oils and emulsions; maintains equipment.

All prospective candidates should have the ability to travel extensively with overnight stays away from home for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives
  • Assists internal and external customers with ordering
  • Reads incoming paperwork to insure proper materials are being delivered
  • Safely and properly operate Asphalt Plant
  • Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges
  • Hook up off load hoses for AC delivery
  • Trace product and raw material lines to ensure proper transfers
  • Adjust valves as necessary to load or unload product in tanks and lines
  • Climb tank ladders (up to 50’ high) to take tank gauges or service mechanical apparatuses as needed
  • Check temperature and PSI of oil heater and adjust as necessary
  • Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication
  • Perform plant and line maintenance including repair and replacement of valves, motors, bearings, gaskets, shafts, gauges, etc.
  • Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in logbook
  • Complete daily production reports with details such as time, temperature and quantity
  • Clean facilities by sweeping, shoveling, scraping spills, etc.
  • Ensures materials and/or supplies on-hand for next day construction projects
  • Tear down, move and re-assemble asphalt plant
  • Travel to other work locations as necessary

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • One to three years related asphalt experience and/or training preferred, but not required
  • Valid drivers’ license with clean driving history required
  • Ability to provide customer service
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Must be dependable and reliable for all work shifts
  • Must be available for various shifts
  • Some travel to other work locations may be required

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise
  • Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
  • Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
