Job Description

  • Lead a team of diverse, hardworking, and driven software engineers who specialize in running high throughput, reliable services.

  • Build and foster a team culture that is positive, encouraging, inclusive, and engaging.

  • Coach and mentor the professional development of each direct report through personal and performance management.

  • Give engineers the tools, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to the recognition of your engineers and not just yourself.

  • Be responsible for the group’s technical strategy and roadmap – creating success metrics in close collaboration with other Engineering, Product Managers, Design, and Research.

  • Bring a strong perspective that inspires change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems.

  • Contribute to product vision by participating in research and design explorations to solve customer problems (not just help team execute effectively on predetermined bodies of work).

  • Work with tech leads and senior engineers to gather requirements, gut check new feature proposals and large improvements.

  • Work closely with the Twitter recruiting team to hire high-potential candidates from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • You have experience leading engineers at all levels and you’re skilled at coaching and guiding your directs through their career development.

  • You are customer focused, with ability to offer input on high level solutions to customer problems that helps drive product roadmap.

  • You have experience building and deploying highly scalable systems that deliver product value.

  • You have a technical background and are able to contribute to planning and design discussions, and are comfortable diving into the fray to help drive resolution in the case of bad incidents.

  • You are a strong advocate of software engineering methodologies and bring a disciplined approach to testing, continuous delivery, and reducing technical debt.

  • You are excited to engage multi-functional partners to help achieve a common goal for our customers.

  • You have a collaborative working style with a strong focus on execution and results.

  • You like to ground decisions in data and reasoning and solve root causes of problems rather than surface issues.

  • You are adept at communicating relevant information clearly and concisely.

  • You look ahead to find opportunities and foster a culture of innovation.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or Masters in Computer Science with 5+ years of experience

  • 2+ years of experience managing software engineering teams

  • Previously managed a team of 5+ engineers with responsibility for a reasonably complex system in production
