Boeing Global Services is a rapidly growing segment of the Boeing Company, and C-17 Global Integrated Sustainment Partnership (GISP) is a key program within it. The GISP Program provides sustaining engineering in multiple engineering disciplines.This Associate position (Level 2) is in Avionics Systems for the C-17 Military Airlifter Program within the Flight Deck, Avionics & Software Engineering, located in Long Beach, California. Changes in Avionics technology require continuous upgrade and engineering evaluation of present/future capability. The selected candidate will rapidly integrate into the team and apply an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis, design, development, verification and validation of changes to the C-17 Flight Management System (FMS), focusing on design, testing, troubleshooting, implementation, and integration at a system level. In general, the candidate will apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts to contribute to the development of new capabilities for the aircraft systems.Tasks will broaden upon candidate’s knowledge in aviation, including areas such as navigation and localization (position awareness), guidance and flight controls, and federal and military regulations and policies, and will expand as the candidate grows within the domain. This job will build expertise in aircraft technologies that are both industry standards and C-17 specific.The primary subject matter for this role will be the Flight Management System, which is responsible for navigation, guidance, and control and automation of aircraft. A successful candidate in this position will be an excellent communicator, exhibiting an ease in working and articulating opinions in technical terms while remaining aware of business constraints.Position Responsibilities:Work on technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.Develop designs for new functionality on the C-17 in order to provide U.S and international military customers with more capabilities and automationPerform root cause analysis and propose solutions to field issuesSynthesize measured aircraft data with operational models and specifications; and usage of multitude of software tools, including self-developed programs and scripts as neededAssist with evaluating customer/operational needs in order to refine system performance and functional requirements and define physical, functional and program interfacesDevelop solutions to technical problems of significant scope and impactApply solid engineering, scientific, and common sense principles in the context of achieving Avionic Systems upgrades within real world cost & schedule targetsExport Control:This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):Classroom or work related programming experience with any of the following software development languages: Ada, C, C, C#, JAVA, and Python4 year engineering degree1+ years of experiencein aircraft, avionics, flight controls, and/or other electronicsPreferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):1+ years of full time aerospace industry experience with Avionics, Flight Management System and Electrical Systems4 year degree in electrical or aerospace engineeringHave a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or ChemistryHave one of the following: Military/Commercial Aircrew experience, Private Pilot License, or Flight Instructor certificationExperience with shell scripting languages including PythonTypical Education/ Experience:Education/Experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Software Engineering (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master’s degree).
