The successful applicant will understand the demands of treating pediatric dental patients in a fast-paced clinical environment. High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Four years of related experience.

Registered Dental Assistant in Texas. CPR certified.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of dental terminology and dental procedures as well as instruments, materials, and standardized dental procedures used in dental care.

Knowledge of infectious control policies, aseptic techniques, supplies, and equipment.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to operate dental radiographic equipment.

Ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing, and walking. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Bi-lingual in Spanish.

Experience working with Pediatric patients in a clinical or hospital setting.

Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Responsibilities:

Provides chair side assistance to faculty and students during dental procedures and provides routine care of dental patients, equipment and instruments.

Works closely with instructors and students, providing intra-oral assistance in close proximity under varying, sometimes critical conditions.

Implement dental procedures, setting up instruments, equipment and materials.

Ensures that preparations are properly arranged and in accordance with sterility requirements.

Assists the faculty, students and residents during the administration of prophylactic, therapeutic or surgical treatment procedures to provide for dentist/patient needs to include using irrigation solutions and suction to keep field free of debris and monitoring patients.

May need to assist with scheduling of patients, coordinate chart retrieval and handle financial transactions and/or telephones.

Mixes indicated dressings and other materials; pours models.

Maintains dental equipment in a clean and operative condition and properly stores and maintains adequate levels of supplies.

May need to inventory, organize stock and order dental and office supplies.

May need to perform other duties as directed by faculty or supervisor at various locations.
