Patient Transporter

The schedule for this position is Saturday and Sunday from 7 : 00 p.m.-7 : 00 a.m. and additional 8-hour afternoon shifts during the week.

SUMMARY :

The Patient Transporter is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of patients to and from clinical units, various diagnostic areas in accordance with established policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS :

High school diploma or equivalent

BCLS required or obtain within six months of hire. Failure to obtain may result in termination of employment

Prior experience in patient handling and working with the public desirable

Must be able to interact positively with patients and hospital personnel

Must be able to accurately record information provided by dispatcher and write legibly

Must be able to hear, comprehend and follow directions

Must be able to walk extensively and capable of lifting and moving patients

ORGANIZATION :

Works under the supervision of the Patient Transport Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Works in well lighted and clean surroundings

Stands and walks most of the time, throughout the hospital

SPECIFIC DUTIES :

3)Has basic understanding of Relationship-Based Care (RBC) principles, meets expectations outlined in Commitment to My Co-workers, and supports RBC unit action plans

4)Transport patients in a safe and timely manner, following established policies and procedures

a)Ticket To Ride

b) Knowledgeable of Safety and Infection Control Policies

5)Completes transport log sheet

a)Receives and records accurate information from TeleTracking system / dispatcher for each transport.

b) Secures additional information, as required for each transport.

c)Handles oxygen portables / cylinders safely.

d)Assures there is ample oxygen for the transport trip.

e)Assures tank is working properly.

f)Handles oxygen E-cylinder safely during transport.

6) Removes from service any defective or soiled equipment

a)Moves defective equipment to a holding area and marks equipment as defective.

b)Reports status of equipment to Lead.

7) Assists in the transfer of patient from bed / wheelchair to patient transport equipment or back utilizing correct body mechanics and universal precautions

a)Responsible to assure availability of transport equipment.

b)Follow instruction of medical professional leading the transfer.

8) Morgue

a)Transports deceased patients to the morgue.

b)Assists funeral directors with discharges from the morgue.

9)Transports patient equipment to requested areas - Commode, IV pole, etc

10)Utilizes effective communication skills and interpersonal interactions with patients and families, visitors, physicians, fellow employees, and team members

a)Interacts with patients and families, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel in a positive, respectful, and productive manner at all times.

b)Demonstrates appropriate and acceptable non-verbal behaviors.

11)Actively supports hospital values and exhibits excellent customer / guest relations

a)Anticipates customer / guest needs in all interactions.

b)Serves as a role model in meeting customer requirements and proving service at all times.

12) Utilizes patient transport system ï ½ Tele Tracking
