Description

Minimum Education Must be trained by medical technologist or medical laboratory technicians in proper techniques of blood collection.

Must demonstrate competence by completion of the phlebotomy training checklist.Formal phlebotomy training program preferred.

BLS required. Required Skills Excellent oral and written communication skills.Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department.

Leadership ability, integrity, and initiative required.Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Essential FunctionsKnowledgeable with the ability to practice Medicare Compliance.Knowledgeable with the ability to practice and teach CLIA 88 regulations and to perform blood collection competently and with aseptic technique.

Collecting blood specimens and other laboratory specimens using aseptic technique.Collects timed orders and STAT orders within time guidelines.

Provides exceptional customer service with all customers, internal and external.Consistently demonstrates consideration and respect to others.

Offers assistance to other lab team members as needed.Notifies lab administration each time a credit should be issued in order to provide customers with accurate billing.

Uses good interpersonal skills in dealing with co-workers, management and those outside the hospital organization.Attends and participates in lab meetings.

Participates in CAP on-line competencies and other educational opportunities.Consistently demonstrates respect and consideration to others.

Proficiently collects specimens on all patient populations without deleterious outcomes.Work requires physical ability as walking, standing, sitting, etc.

Involves mental activity and problem-solving.Talking and listening are essential in instructing and supervising personnel.

May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and / or potentially dangerous equipment.

Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.Walking and standing for long periods of time depending on workload.

Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside.Sitting for long periods of time throughout day.Lifting Regularly assists with lifting patients (weights up to 300+ pounds waist high).

Routinely lifts boxes, packages and books.Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients and operate machinery.

Reading and writing required regularly to follow job description.
