Full-time, day shift, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday with weekend and on-call (including holiday) rotations, 6:30AM-5:00PMSUMMARY:Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers.PURPOSE:The purpose of this document is to describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel as classified; it is not intended to serve as an inclusive list of all responsibilities associated with this position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Performs venipunctures. Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient. Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate.

Makes accurate, initial assessment of specimen suitability according to criteria outlined in the Laboratory Handbook and department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

Processes stores and transports specimens according to the Laboratory Handbook and SOP’s.

Responds to customer inquiries for information regarding specimen requirements and testing schedules.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in specimen requirements and collection devices.

Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensure a meticulous work area.

Provides on-call and mobile service as required.

Assist in the orientation/training of new staff members.

Reports collection statistics, patient wait times and patient satisfaction surveys as required.

Participates in the Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs.

Must properly record and document necessary data on expense reimbursement (mileage reimbursement)

Required SkillsQUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education/Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred.Language Ability:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location.Math Ability:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Computer Skills:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.Certificates and Licenses:A valid driver’s license from the state that the employee resides as well as a clean driving record. Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities. CPR Certification encouraged but not mandatory.Required Experience
