Youth & Children's Ministry Coordinator $12.50/hr 20 hours

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator will seek to enhance the holistic spiritual development of Ashland community children and teens by providing direction and implementation for all relevant ministry opportunities of theKroc Center. Specific attention will be given to evangelism & outreach, discipleship, and mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

1. To provide discipleship opportunities for children and teens through corps programming.

2. To give leadership to a weekly “youth group” program for teens;

3. To give leadership to teen leadership development, Bible study, volunteering, and /or life skills programs including Corps Cadets, Kroc Crew, Teen Bible Study, or hybrid programs implementing these program aspects;

4. To give oversight and/or leadership to existing children’s ministry programs at the Kroc, including (but not limited to) – Sunday School, Jr. Church, Jr. Soldiers, Troops, Mission Literacy, etc.;

5. To recruit, train, organize, & give supervision to volunteers that can engage in Corps youth ministry;

6. To teach a Sunday School class, as needed;

7. To serve as the “mission integration specialist” for the Kroc Center Learning Zone, after-school program and summer day camp, including to lead and organize a weekly chapel and other electives/ corps program opportunities;

8. To participate and engage in children and teen events at the Kroc- such as Family Fun Night and Middle SchoolNight.

9. To develop and implement strategies that help children, teens, & families understand who The Salvation Army is as a church and provide entryways into the church fellowship;

10. To serve as director of the annual Vacation Bible School program;

11. To develop and implement other youth ministry programming as the need arises & time/budget allows – examples could include age-specific worship times, Bible bowl, Arts, small group formation, etc.

12. To attend and participate in Kroc Leadership Team meetings, as assigned by the Administrators/ Corps Officers;

13. To follow through on administrative duties of the position, including the timely submission of related statistics, adherence to the Corps Operating Budget, consistent Outlook e-mail correspondence, and maintenance ofCorps Youth Ministry program resources;

14. To coordinate and give oversight (as requested) to children and teen participation in Divisional & Territorial programming including (but not limited to) – Youth Councils, MAP, Jr. Soldier/Troops Rallies, TSA C&

15. To act as the Kroc Center liaison for community youth ministry events & programs.

16. To attend youth ministry training events conducted by the Division and/or Territory, as directed by theAdministrators/ Corps Officers;

17. To perform other reasonable tasks which may be assigned, as needed.

It is imperative to note that since the Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator is a non-ordained ministry position, communications made in confidence to the position holder are not considered “privileged” under the law and could be required to be shared in legal proceedings. Care should be taken to ensure this point is clear in relevant situations. TheYouth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator should consider him-/herself a mandatory reporter with regard to suspicion of child abuse of any kind, in accordance with state regulations.

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Due to the influential nature of this position, as essentially a key youth local officer, the Youth and Children’s MinistryCoordinator role requires active, engaged participation at the Ashland Kroc Corps. “Active engagement” is defined as the following:

1. The Kroc Center as the church affiliation and place of worship, with an anticipated worship attendance of SundaySchool and Sunday Morning Worship Service;

2. Transfer of soldiership to the Kroc Center (if previously enrolled), or Senior Soldier enrollment within 1 year of employment (if not previously enrolled);

3. Wearing of a Salvation Army uniform or similar approved attire (dark pants/skirt, white shirt, dark tie, etc);

4. Reasonable program support and/or leadership, outside of employment responsibilities;

5. Appropriate financial support as befits the primary place of worship and church membership

6. A lifestyle consistent with the principles of Salvation Army Soldiership.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Youth and Children’s Ministries Coordinator will recruit, train, organize, & give supervision to staff and volunteers in the youth and children’s ministries.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.

 Must be at least 21 years old; A bachelor’s degree in youth ministry or a related field is preferred, or relevant work experience; Must have experience in ministry with children and/or teens;

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

 Must have the ability to work and relate well with children, teens, adults, and Kroc Center staff in all situations; Must have a working knowledge of the Kroc Center Code of Conduct & Policies; Must maintain a professional attitude and approach to administrative duties, independent work, problem solving, & time management; Must adhere to employee guidelines set forth by The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory, NEOSA Division and the Kroc Center; Must have (at minimum) basic computer skills, including the ability to use word processing programs, e-mail, and web searching/browsing; Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to be approved to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
