Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic Guardant Health has temporarily classified this role as ‘working from home status’, scheduled to return onsite at HQ when it is determined safe to do so.

Position Summary:

The successful

Staff Bioinformatics Software Engineer candidate will join an interdisciplinary team developing high throughput screening applications for early cancer detection. The analytics is based on a set of clinical DNA whole genome, exome sequence data and multiple epigenetic data types produced by novel R&D pipelines at Guardant Health. The scope of this project provides unique opportunities for developing and learning novel analytical methods for DNA sequencing data, including cell free DNA-based transcript expression and methylation data integrated with epigenetic data sets.

This individual will work with bioinformatics scientists, assay developers, software engineers, and project leads to design, develop and drive delivering state of the art software solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop end-to-end analysis of epigenetic cell free nucleic acid NGS data based on product requirements and user needs.
  • Work with large, complex data sets in a distributed computing environment for high throughput parallel data processing.
  • Perform algorithm optimization for meeting performance and throughput scaling needs.
  • Communicates development status, analytics results and performance metrics through presentations and project reports as well as scientific publications.
  • Systematically leverages external innovation ideas and expertise to address technology gaps and advance theGuardant Health’sbusiness.
  • Leads other scientists and engineers for software development and testing activities
  • Provide analytic support on individual samples and troubleshooting activities.
  • Provide analytic support to CLIA and CAP regulated clinical operations.
  • Explore genomic data from clinical patients and external annotation sources to enhance the quality of reporting.
  • Develop scripts for research and development activities.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computational Biology or related field. Equivalent industry experience accepted.
  • 8+ Years experience developing software in a production environment.
  • Experienced in software development, proficient in C and Python languages.
  • Experience with distributed processing and clustered applications
  • Experience with modern tools and pipelines in genomics for processing and analysis of primary data.
  • Experience with a statistical programming language (e.g., R).
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with the software development cycle in a regulated environment and agile process.

Work Environment:

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
