GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Retirement Center is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Food Services Supervisor. This position supervises the facility's foodservice operations, ensuring that all health/safety guidelines are adhered to for compliance with regulating entities. Works with a clinical dietitian to ensure that the nutritional needs of the residents are met. This position has supervisory responsibilities for a staff of 11 people. Also has input into setting a budget.

The successful applicant, if not certified, will be required to enroll in and successfully complete a Certified Dietary Manager/Certified Food Protection Professional course within the first 12 months of hire, per federal regulations.Human Resource Contact: 307/684-5511 ext 301 laure.walter@wyo.govESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Works with the clinical dietitian to assess the nutritional status and implement therapeutic diets for residents upon admission, monthly, quarterly, annual, and when a change of condition occurs.

  • Develops individualized care plans and participates in plan of care meetings with the interdisciplinary team, physician, resident, and family member.

  • Makes nutritional recommendations to the physician when necessary.

  • Organizes supervises and documents the work duties of the dietary staff.

  • Makes hiring, promotion, disciplinary, and discharge recommendations.

  • Schedules review weekly timesheets and approve/declines leave requests.

  • Plans and conducts in-service training for dietary staff monthly and semi-annually.

  • Fills in as cook or dietary aide, as necessary.

  • Plans and implements a five-week/four-season menu cycle with therapeutic extensions to meet the individual needs of residents.

  • Organizes special events and holiday meals for the residents and their families.

  • Develops policies and procedures for the dietary department based on State and Federal Nursing Home Regulations.

  • Assures compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to individuals who possess a Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification and who have 3 or more years of experience in foodservice in a large institution or commercial foodservice facility or school.

The successful applicant, if not certified, will be required to enroll in and successfully complete a Certified Dietary Manager/Certified Food Protection Professional course within the first 12 months of hire, per federal regulations.KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of normal and therapeutic diets and drug interactions.

  • Knowledge of dietary assessment techniques, clinical menu planning, and recipe writing.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, food safety codes, and techniques, sanitation, and nutrition.

  • Knowledge of budgeting and scheduling.

  • Knowledge of large equipment operations.

  • Skills in supervision, oral, and written communication.

  • Skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.

  • Skills in time management, working under pressure, and interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to stoop, stand, bend, reach, climb a ladder, and have no restraints to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to plan, organize, communicate, delegate, and handle multiple tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Culinary Arts)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Food Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Food Services Specialist

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Food Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Food Services Specialist

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical ability to lift, twist, bend and push up to 50 lbs.

  • Work evenings and weekends when the situation requires it.

  • Must be able to handle all types of food groups including, but not limited to: poultry, meat, fish, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, spices, and seasonings.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-exempt.

  • A background information check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wyoming Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.

  • For the health and protection of the persons we care for, annual influenza vaccination is required as well as annual testing for tuberculosis.
