Req Number 75544Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe primary objective of this job is to improve quality, treat and support patients and family members in a caring professional manner and fulfill the hospital's mission to serve our patients and their families by registering patients and performing a variety of clerical duties for Ambulatory Care Services.Job Responsibility
Registers patients using computer system. Verifies insurance eligibility on all patients by using EMEVS, epaces, eligibility rosters and/or insurance cards.
Interviews patients or their representative to obtain demographic and financial data and enters the information into the hospital's computer system and providers billing form, when appropriate. Instructs patient in required documentation needed for visit.
Makes patient appointments in PHS in accordance with criteria established by individual providers. Gathers all pertinent information required in PHS.
Performs follow-up on all no-show patients. Reschedules patients as directed by provider. Documents action taken on patient's chart.
Secures all necessary signatures on forms and consents as required by established policies and procedures and ensures all information recorded is complete and accurate.
Creates an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the site.
Screens all telephone calls, answers questions, transfers calls to proper department, records and relays messages appropriately. Receives and directs employees and patients to appropriate areas while maintaining confidentiality.
Performs clerical duties such as filing and photocopying.
Corrects registration errors when notified.
Uses the computer to record diagnoses and procedures performed on patients using information completed by provider on encounter form.
Works closely with clinicians to facilitate patient flow.
Reports complaints, hazardous conditions and equipment needing service to appropriate personnel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Compiles and calculates various statistics and quality control information by gathering data, reviewing reports, performing surveys, etc.
Requests ancillary test results from appropriate locations.
Pulls or creates folders for each patient on appointment schedule each day.
Prepares records by reviewing for demographic sheet, consents and inserting progress notes.
Pulls records requested for peer review or other quality management studies.
Maintains physical appearance of record and insures all records are accounted for.
Purges and signs out to storage location medical records on a regular basis to allow space for current patient charts.
Relate to patients in a manner appropriate for their age, level of understanding and culture. Seeks an interpreter for non-English speaking and deaf patients.
Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and annual mandatory education.
Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals by identifying every patient by full name and date of birth.
Job QualificationEDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent. Ability to speak, read, write and understand English preferred.WORK EXPERIENCE: Six to twelve months prior related experience.WORKING CONDITIONS: Busy outpatient clinic environment with patient contact.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires periods of sitting with frequent standing. Requires extended periods of keying patient data into computer. Requires frequent verbal communication with patients, staff, and physicians through face-to-face contact as well as via telephone. Requires occasional bending, lifting, and pushing.MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to understand insurance types and determine when and if a patient's financial class should change. Stress is created frequently by the need to prioritize work assignments and to process a high volume of patients within a short period of time while meeting all of the technical requirements of registration.
