Medical Director, Center for Maternal-Infant HealthThe Medical Director of the Center for Maternal-Infant Health will serve in a key leadership role to develop and lead the Center for Maternal-Infant Health across the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise. The mission for the Maternal-Infant Health Center is to reduce racial disparities and save the lives of babies and mothers in Northeast Ohio with an equity strategy implementing new models of care proven to reduce their risks, improving care paths, addressing social determinants or health and education around healthy lifestyles and prevention strategies. The Medical Director will ensure the alignment of the patient experience, community health, clinical care, research, medical education, and clinical quality initiatives for the Center. As such, the Medical Director will serve have a highly visible and accountable position both internal to the organization and within the Northeast Ohio region. The Medical Director will work in a dyad team with the Program Administrative for the Center. Together, they will achieve the primary goals of the Center and ensure the alignment of the patient experience, community health, clinical care, research, medical education, and clinical quality initiatives for the Center.The Medical Director of the Center for Maternal-Infant Health will have:

Physician leadership experience

Operational and clinical leadership experience in perinatal care

Ability to work with a diverse set of leaders, caregivers, and other stakeholders across multiple institutes and community organizations

Superior communication skills, emotional intelligence and the ability to create consensus

Ability to implement change based on program inputs and outcome measures

Understanding of the causes associated with infant and perinatal mortality both medical and social in order to create programs that address these causes

Understand the regional variation in infant mortality within the northeast Ohio community

Understand the social determinants of health that impact perinatal and infant outcomes

A commitment of approximately 40% of time is expected, potentially to be adjusted as necessitated by the role, individual and organizational needs.Key functions will involve:

Strategic vision and tactical implementation in the on-going development of the Center for Maternal-Infant Health

Build programs in collaboration with community health, obstetrics, maternal fetal medicine, behavioral health and other institutes (e.g., HVTI, Endocrinology) that are focused on reducing infant and perinatal mortality

Regional development that will provide the greatest benefit to the highest risk areas in northeast Ohio.

Assist in the development of research studies to document outcomes in a clinical rigorous fashion

Develop sustainable programs that leverage other funding sources such as Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Medicaid as opportunities arise.

Develop community relationships that address social determinants of health through culturally sensitive initiatives

Communicate the Center plans to the Cleveland Clinic leadership, community leaders, and governmental partners

This includes presenting to organizational leaders as well as to outside organizations. The position necessitates strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and professional skills.

VisionThe Medical Director of the Center for Maternal-Infant Health will plan, build, direct and coordinate the different programs that cross institute boundaries to reduce infant and perinatal mortality in northeast Ohio. The center will be inclusive of all three components of the academic mission: clinical care, research, and teaching. The program will be based on the most advanced data driven science. Research and innovation are expected to advance the Cleveland Clinic which will be recognized nationally as a center of excellence.Strategic Planning and Program Development

Work with Administrative Director and other leaders within 4C, WHI, PI, NI and others to determine and refine the overall mission, vision, goals and objectives of the center. Ensure the implementation of a strategic plan that makes consistent and timely progress toward center goals.

Develop business plans for programs that include a plans for sustainability

Manage multiple projects to meet goals of the Center

Communicate plans with leadership, staff, community partners, and governmental partners to insure cooperation and alignment of the programs with Center goals

Monitor financial utilization of resources allocated to program development

Develop and monitor OKRs

Develop and implement policies and procedures consonant with the Cleveland Clinic Mission

Partner with Institute(s) Leadership to assist with hiring staff to implement planned programs

Manage program implementation and assist clinical leadership in operational alignment

The ideal candidate would have:

High emotional intelligence and passion for working addressing maternal-infant health

Demonstrated strategic and analytical skills, including the ability to analyze complex situations, learn quickly and synthesize corresponding solutions, options and action plans.

Creative problem solving skills, including the ability to identify areas of common ground across potentially competing points-of-view.

Excellent communications skills, including written and oral presentation skills, with the ability to engage, build credibility and engender trust across all levels of an organization.

Ability to prioritize responsibilities, handle multiple projects simultaneously and delegate responsibilities when appropriate.

Experience with NEO healthcare industries, including major hospital systems, other significant providers, city and state agencies, and relevant community-based organizations and agencies.
