GENERAL SUMMARY : Under general supervision, unarmed Security Officers are responsible for protecting the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, patients and visitors against criminal activity, accidents, fires and natural disasters, as well as providing outstanding customer service.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : 1. Must provide excellent customer service when dealing with Patients, Visitors, Customers, Employees, Co-Workers, etc.
2. Manage posts this may include building lobbies or reception areas.3. Monitor surroundings on closed-circuit television.
4. Conduct hourly foot patrol of interior and exterior to check entrances, doors, windows and vents are locked and secure against break-ins (includes climbing stairs).
5. Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.6. Maintain access control of visitors during / or after normal visiting hours.
7. Patrolling facilities & properties or manning posts to provide security presence.8. Detecting suspicious activity and threats to property or people.
9. Watch for criminal activity and responding based on training.10. Subdue resisting subjects using hands and feet while employing defensive tactics, maneuvers or approved non-lethal weapons.
11. Observe and report criminal activity to Security Police Officer, Security Leader, Supervisor and / or Manager or local police authority (if appropriate).
12. Check for employee and vendor identifications.13. May direct traffic on the premises and issue parking violations.14.
May provide security escorts for facility employees, patients and visitors.15. Look for suspicious persons, packages and activities.
16. Participate in implementation of emergency procedures such as fire, accidents, evacuation, and traffic control.17. Must follow site-specific post guidelines.
18. Document daily activities and incident reports.19. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
Associate’s Degree or two (2) years of college required.
College coursework in Criminal Justice, Security Administration preferred.
One to three (1-3) years of healthcare security experience preferred.
May be required to use an intermediate weapon.
Annual training and testing requirements must be maintained.
HFH police authority is PA330. To carry this certification a licensed private security police officer, also referred to as "arrest authority" security guards, have misdemeanor arrest authority while on active duty, while on HFHS premises and in full uniform.
Therefore, all security officers and security police officers must carry the appropriate licensure, and all of the employees that have the arrest authority must meet minimum requirements related to age, security or law enforcement experience, as well as a suitable background, which includes the absence of any felony conviction and specific misdemeanor convictions.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURES REQUIRED :
Maintain a valid unexpired Michigan operator’s license.
Satisfactorily complete state minimum training certification requirements and required testing.
