Job Summary

Breakthrough Corporation is a non-profit organization providing services that enable adults with autism to lead purposeful lives at home and in the community. We are seeking caring and patient staff willing to assist adults with autism at their work-site to encourage success and in employment. The Job Coach is responsible for assisting people with disabilities by modeling and teaching necessary skills, participating in situational assessments, providing transportation, supporting individuals that we serve in the work place, and helping them achieve positive personal outcomes. The Job Coach is a part of a professional team responsible for assisting each individual to live a safe, enjoyable life in their community with opportunities to learn and to exercise increasing independence in employment and volunteering.

Please note: Many of the people we support have essential jobs. Some of the job sites include hospitals, retailers, and warehouse settings (this list is not exclusive). Job coaches provide in-person support to people that are in these roles. Breakthrough's top priority is ensuring the safety of the people we support and our staff. We monitor staff and the people that we support for COVID-19 symptoms daily.

Staff are required to: wear a mask when providing services, keep a daily temperature log, report any COVID-19 symptoms immediately, practice good hand hygiene by washing and/or sanitizing their hands regularly, and follow any other precautions set forth by the administration.

Job Coaches must do the following:

  • Meet all requirements of licensing, regulatory, and accrediting entities
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Have a safe vehicle with adequate vehicle insurance
  • Be able to communicate effectively and follow verbal/written instructions
  • Must have understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with the people Breakthrough supports
  • Be able to prioritize work tasks
  • Be able to work with or without close supervision

Responsibilities and Duties (these may vary based on the assignment)

  • Training a person supported on the job to perform specific duties and familiarize the person with the work place.
  • Assist in training the person in appropriate behavior activities in preparation for employment placement.
  • Assist a person supported in developing positive relationships and behaviors with co-workers and supervisors and to increase their networks of friends and acquaintances
  • Identify and intercede when on the job problems or difficulties arise that may affect the person's ability to maintain employment.
  • Assist a person supported to gain increasing independence so the coaching services can be successfully faded from the job site.
  • Provide disability awareness information to the person's supervisor and co-workers.
  • Documentation of services
  • Transportation
  • Crisis Intervention as applicable
  • Implementation of specialized plans of care
  • Treat all individuals with dignity and respect.
  • Provide regular feedback regarding the person's program.
  • Oversight of health and welfare of the person supported through administering medications or supporting self-medication in accordance with policy, providing a well-balanced diet prepared to meet individual needs (when applicable), and follow all instructions given by health professionals.
  • Complete Breakthrough's training program in a timely manner and participate in other professional development as required by the supervisor.
  • Acts as a professional liaison between employment agencies and Breakthrough and maintains a consistent, cooperative and working relationship with these agencies and businesses.
  • Maintain all required certifications such as medication administration, vocational rehabilitation training, CPR/First Aid, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.
  • Follow all Breakthrough policies and procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and administration.
  • Exhibit accountability and honesty at all times.

Physical Demands

  • Must have good physical (occasional lifting of 50 pounds) and mental health and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to deal with stress and adjust to a flexible work schedule.
  • Must be physically able to be trained in Crisis Prevention Management.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Relevant experience preferred
  • Must be able to successfully pass all background tests and drug screening
  • Must maintain all training requirements
  • Have a valid TN driver's license and car insurance with a reliable vehicle and willingness to transport person's supported ($.45/mile)
  • Ability to compose, prepare, and type monthly reports

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $10.50 per hour

Experience:

  • working with autistic adults in a supportive capacity: 1 year (Preferred)

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

License:

  • Driver's License/Social Security (Required)
