  • A possessor of a positive Christian experience who is willing and able to share it.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Applicants must be in compliance with child protection policies of The Salvation Army.
  • An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, program, and practices.
  • A graduate from a college or university with a major in Christian Education, or education. On the job experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Ability to plan, direct and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to work independently or with other staff members.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate Christian Education programs that meet the needs of youth in the community including, but not limited to, Salvation Army programming.
  • Ability to keep calm in demanding situations.
  • Multi-media, first aid card, and current CPR certification.
  • Applicants must have experience working with other volunteers and youth workers in either a team or supervisory role.
  • Applicants must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license and ability to pass TSA MVR check and in-house driving course.
  • Applicants from other denominations must agree to both the doctrines and practices of The Salvation Army and demonstrate an ability to relate to both youth and adults. It would be preferred that such applicants attend a Salvation Army for 6 months before taking on the role of a paid youth worker.



  • Keep attendance and program statistics. Prepare monthly reports.
  • Handle public relations for the Christian Education Department, under the guidance of the Corps Officer and Program Manager.
  • Communicate with service groups, other Salvation Army programs, community centers, schools, churches, etc. on programs.
  • Deal with suggestions, incidents, accidents, and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Develop quarterly brochure and information sheets for programs to be advertised in the community center’s calendar information.
  • Work with Gym Supervisor in updating bulletins boards in lobby area on a regular basis for program information.
  • Set up and work with Corps Officer and/or Program Manager in handling the transportation needs of the Christian Education programs to include Corps Youth Group/Corps Youth Program, Summer Camp, and Sunday School pickups and drop offs.
  • Handle Christian Education program correspondence.
  • Keep Corps Officer and/or Program Manager informed of activities, equipment and facility’s needs. Purchase and order Christian Education supplies and equipment following proper procedure.
  • Discuss with Corps Officer all plans for outings for youth programs and receive approval before announcing.
  • Must effectively demonstrate abilities in program planning and management.
  • Must effectively demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must effectively demonstrate the ability to work with a wide age range of young people (children to young adults).
  • Must effectively demonstrate the ability to lead a singing company, group or other vocal groups (preferred).
  • Must effectively demonstrate the ability to play piano, guitar, or lead instrument for corps activities (preferred).
  • Complete quarterly youth reports from DHQ youth department.



  • Assist in organizing Corps Community Center special events as assigned by the Program Manager or Corps Officer.


  • Plan and conduct Chapel services for Day Camp on a daily basis
  • Assist Day Camp Director with program during the course of the summer
  • Drive for outings as needed.


  • Conduct regular program evaluations in conjunction with the Program Manager and Corps Officer.
  • Establish goals for existing and desired new programs.
  • Assist corps leadership in the development of Sunday school through outreach visitation and follow up visits with seekers and visitors.
  • Provide leadership for evening youth programs, including program planning, recruitment of leaders, statistics, outreach visitation, transportation; may need to take direct leadership of Boy/Cub Scouts, Girl Guards, and/or Sunbeams.
  • Responsible for Junior Church including program planning, direct leadership, securing equipment and supplies, statistics and ministering to the spiritual needs of all participants.
  • Plan and lead youth Bible clubs, develop other leaders.
  • Provide leadership in the performance and development of the Christian Education programs to include the following:
  • Recruitment and training of volunteers if necessary
  • Assume the role of leadership over the Christian Ed programs.
  • Securing of supplies and equipment for programs as needed
  • See that statistics are properly kept and turned in on a daily basis
  • Plan and implement outreach and evangelism programs designed to attract youth to existing church programs and events in cooperation with volunteers and staff.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Corps Officer as needed and when necessary


  • The Youth Ministry Assistant will be responsible to maintain and increase youth programs throughout the different seasons and holiday periods. It is understood that programs may be modified to allow youth to assist in the Salvation Army’s ministry to the community.
  • The ultimate goal must be to recruit and train volunteers to assist in the administration of youth ministries within the church, with the CE Director as the supervisory and coordinating lead.
  • Responsible for the management, development and implementation of corps youth ministries with the following primary responsibilities:


  • Network and connect the corps social services, after school program, and community center with corps activities and youth ministries (i.e., Sunday School, Worship Services, outreach events, VBS programs, mid-week programs, etc.)
  • Visit at least 33% of families connected to youth in your programs per month.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate (at least quarterly) activities to link parents with the corps. (This could include Sunday morning youth meetings, family night, parenting classes, picnics, etc…)
  • Request assistance from, and support, the Social Services office and main office in the recruitment and selection process of children attending our Divisional Summer youth camp.
  • Recruit and enlist youth of all ages to attend the various divisional events appropriate to their age group.


  • Be a tithing member of the Corps and teach tithing principles to youth and young adult groups.
  • Ensure that there is a regular discipleship program for teens that will include prayer, spiritual counseling and biblical teaching, such as Corps Cadets. (This could be a Bible study for teens using Corps Cadet material.)
  • Ensure a regular discipleship program for kids aged 6-12 such as Junior Solder meetings, that will include prayer, spiritual counseling and biblical teaching,
  • Hold two Sunday School Growth Campaigns each year.
  • Be responsible for a young adult ministry group at the corps.


  • Recruit leaders and either coordinate or personally train leaders in youth culture, development asset, program ideas, biblical teaching, prayer and spiritual counseling.
  • Plan bi-monthly leadership meetings with corps youth workers.
  • Organize regular (weekly) teen ministry activities (ideally recruiting and training leaders to assist with this effort.)
  • Provide leadership as required for various youth ministries.
  • Develop a volunteering and mentoring program and provide spiritual counseling for adults that will work directly with the youth.


  • Participate in the planning of the praise & worship music for Sunday service and provide biblical teaching for Sunday School.
  • Prepare statistics and reports for all youth programs.
  • Serve on the Corps Council and other advisory committees as assigned.
  • Serve as the corps youth liaison to Divisional Headquarters.
  • Provide a one-page quarterly progress report to corps officers.


  • Assist with seasonal efforts, specifically the Christmas/Kettle efforts (i.e. driving, pickups/drop offs, etc).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.


  • Provide supervision for volunteers, assigning duties, scheduling and providing discipline when necessary.
  • Be familiar with Salvation Army personnel policy and procedure.
  • Recruit, interview and make recommendations regarding volunteers for Christian Education to Corps officer and Program Manager.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.
