WOMEN HELPING WOMEN is seeking qualified applicants for the following 16-hour-per-week position: Shelter Advocate (Part-Time / Overnight Shift)

This position is summarized as follows:

To assist shelter residents in accessing legal, health and community resources, to encourage the development of self-esteem, parenting skills, etc. and to support overall program philosophy statement and policies of Women Helping Women.

Duties include answering the 24-hour domestic violence hotline, handling crisis calls, providing in-person services to shelter residents, maintaining client files and activity logs, and other assigned duties

Position details include:

16 hours per week: 11pm Friday to 7am Saturday morning, 11pm Saturday to 7am Sunday morning

$15 per hour; semi-monthly pay periods (this includes the overnight shift premium, currently $1 per hour)

position reports to Deputy Director

working alone for 6 or more hours each shift

located at Women Helping Women's Upcountry shelter

Requirements for this job include:

Bachelors preferred; High School Diploma/GED and experience accepted

Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence

Prepared to work as a first responder with individuals in crisis

Ability to relate well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds

Knowledge of community resources and agencies

Strong English language skills (bilingual English and Spanish is a plus)

Must be willing to undergo criminal history background check and child welfare services background check (only required after job offer is made)
