Duties and Responsibilities (Indicates an Essential Function)

Supports day-to-day operation of one or more work stations with minimal supervision. This involves: understanding technical requirements, maintaining process controls, and training associates and peers.

Performs production operations by using operating equipment and hand tools to assemble product along with preparing materials to be utilized in jobs.

Monitors quality and performance of production parts. Supports quality improvement with corrective and preventative action. Identifies and reports quality and/or production issues to appropriate personnel.

Controls nonconforming material and supports disposition, including root cause analysis.

Identifies areas of improvement related to processes, equipment, stock levels, morale, etc. and proposes suggestions to management.

Follows verbal and written instruction, accepts increased responsibility and is accountable for his/her actions.

Follows safety guidelines (PPE, etc.) and demonstrates safe work practices.

Maintains a good safety record, has a working knowledge of the behavioral based safety initiatives and accepts the responsibility to communicate unsafe situations.

Adheres to the safety and quality standards (goals and metrics) of the organization while working within a team environment.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.

Promotes job and process improvement as it relates to the department. Supports Lean Daily Management (LDM) process.

Provides effort in all levels of work tasks, including highly technical job functions as well as cleaning the work area as needed.

Successfully learns a variety of production processes and performs them safely and proficiently.

Responds to multiple production assignments in a timely and efficient manner.

Overtime may be required, based on business need; regular attendance required.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency required.

Two or more years of related experience in fiber handling strongly preferred.

Demonstrated leadership skills and positive communication style.

Math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Intermediate computer skills, including entering data into software program, looking up documents within an online library and MS Office, including Outlook.

Apply basic troubleshooting skills and make sound decisions.

Safely work with hand tools and sharps, such as scissors, regularly.

Possess the ability to react to changes of responsibility throughout the day.

Must have the flexibility to respond to multiple assignments.

Must have good hand-eye coordination.

Attention to detail required.

Fiber handling/splicing/soldering experience a plus.

Ability to speak, read and write English with technical proficiency.

Wear the proper personal protective equipment for each task, including, but not limited to, safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, hard hat, dust mask, etc.

Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds.

Ability to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, or handle objects, tools and controls.

Ability to stand, walk and climb stairs regularly.

Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel or crouch frequently.

Ability to talk and/or hear frequently.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
