Description Robert Half has an opening for a Controller for a client in the Engineering industry who is seeking an ambitious candidate to join their reputable company. This leadership role oversees an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the Chesapeake, Virginia region.Key responsibilities

Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

Check deliverables of self and team to certify they meet client expectations

Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month

Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis

Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation Requirements - Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

Strong communication and social skills and able to receive criticism well

Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines

Month end closings experience highly desired

Demonstrated knowledge of management

Foundational knowledge in Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)

Strong familiarity with Financial Statement

Knowledge of GAAP Accounting

DCAA experience

Adeptness in Year-end Close

7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills
