Description and FunctionsOpen Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Partake in this unique opportunity to work for an accredited program providing math instruction for at-risk students working on credit recovery towards their high school diploma and/or attaining high school equivalency certification through the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) program. The successful candidate will work for the Wyoming Cowboy Challenge Academy (WCCA) as a math teacher in Guernsey. This position supports students (cadets) ranging from 16 to 18 years in age. These students are at risk of not completing traditional high school. This is a 24/7 facility, housing the cadets for 5.5 months while participating in a very structured program. The incumbent is responsible for developing curriculum, instructing students, grading of tasks/assignments given, providing tutoring and study hall when needed, maintains classroom management, monitors the academic progress of students, and reports progress to leadership and parents. At times it may be necessary to provide supplemental instruction through on-line curriculum presentations as needed. Provides math instruction to students working on either credit recovery towards their high school diploma and/or attaining HiSET certification.

Provide classroom management to students age 16 to 18 years old that are considered at risk of dropping out of or have already dropped out of high school.

Provides one on one tutoring to students in need of additional academic instruction.

Assigns and corrects daily academic activities of students.

Uses computer programs for classroom presentation, grading, and communication to stakeholders (leadership, peers, parents, outside agencies, etc.).

Completes and presents progress reports reflecting student academic progress.

Works with at-risk youth in and outside of the classroom in a very structured program on academics, personal growth, and understanding of societal expectations.

Provides and monitors the academic progress of students using an online curriculum.

QualificationsPREFERENCES: Preference will be given to candidates who have a Bachelor’s Degree and can obtain a Wyoming Professional Teacher's Standards Board Certification in Education with an endorsement in Secondary Math. Preference will also be given to candidates who demonstrate experience working with at-risk youth. Preference will be given to candidates with strong computer skills are necessary, with experience with Google Email, Google Calendar, and Google Drive.KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of planning for instruction, motivation, physical, mental and emotional growth, learning styles, and classroom management.

Knowledge of curriculum management and development.

Knowledge of basic computer software and operation of computers.

Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with civil emergency activities.

Knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices.

Skilled in teaching mathematics to students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Education)Experience:0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teacher AideCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.OREducation & Experience Substitution:4-6 years of progressive work (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teacher AideCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.Necessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:The incumbent will be working with at-risk youth daily.

May be required to assist other department sections when not teaching, such as recruiting, dining operations, cadet operations, and counseling.

May be required to work on weekends or evenings during various phases of the program to provide guidance and direction to students (cadets), in attendance, participate in community service, and/or field trips.

A valid Wyoming driver’s license is required.
