Highway Construction Estimator

San Bar Construction Corp. is currently recruiting to fill the position Highway Construction Estimator. The primary responsibility of the Estimator will prepare and/or coordinate estimates including analyzing specifications, proposals, takeoffs and other documentation to prepare estimates.

Responsibilities

Coordinate total estimating of highway and civil to a particular bid/project

Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meeting, to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analyst reports into unit and man-hour figures

Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work

Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues

Work with company owners and subcontractors to get commitment regarding proposed bids

Monitor client changes and advise the estimating team of all changes during estimate period

Review list of work to be performed by subcontractors

Review final estimate and apply strategic cost factors if necessary

Partner with other contractors to turn project over to production team.

Follow awarded contract which may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits

Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures including current/accurate information on prices from suppliers and subcontractors.

Search and analyze options for most effective means and methods of construction

Excellent people skills to build inter-company relationships as well as maintain relationships with contractors and DOT

Write subcontracts and distribute/collect them for review

Qualifications:

4 plus years of experience in estimating and project management

Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as engineering or construction management highly desirable

Ability to manage time and work and meet deadlines independently

Experience with Viewpoint/Pro Contractor

Good background in mathematics
