Veterinary Assistant - Dermatology Specialty

If so, Veterinary Dermatology of Richmond is looking for a full-time veterinary assistant. Our office is open Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. We are off weekends and major holidays and enjoy excellent benefits. We are located within Dogwood Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

A minimum of 1-year employment in the veterinary assistant field with excellent animal restraint skills.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. unassisted and be on your feet 8 hours a day in a fast-paced, busy practice.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preference for candidates with experience reading ear and skin cytologies and skin scrapes.

Job Description:

Assist the veterinarian and technical staff during exams.

Help maintain the flow of patients in the hospital.

Provide a safe, gentle, skilled restraint in a low-stress environment.

Set up and assist with procedures to include collecting and prepping lab samples, cytologies (ear cytology, skin cytology, skin scrapes, etc.), biopsies, skin testing, venipuncture, anal sac expression, ear cleaning, nail trims….and more.

Clean, organize, and stock treatment area, exam rooms, pharmacy, and lab.

Effectively communicate with clients in a friendly and helpful manner to include: obtaining detailed histories, explaining estimates and treatment plans, explaining medications, discharging clients, and explaining lab results.

Utilize practice management software to maintain and document patient records.
