Whatcom Community College invites applications for a Criminal Justice Instructor/Program Coordinator beginning Winter Quarter 2021. The college is seeking a dynamic individual, who is committed to equity, interested in developing and engaging students through the use and implementation of innovative and inclusive curriculum and teaching methods, both inside and outside the classroom. This position reports to the Dean for Workforce Education.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and coordinate required courses that prepare students for the criminal justice workforce or continued education; to collaborate with college faculty and administrators in overseeing the program meets and abides by legislative and accrediting body standards; to contributing to the future vision and scope of the program at the college; to remain current in the field and adapt courses to meet changing job skills and qualification requirements; to develop and maintain contacts and knowledge of criminal justice related agencies, organizations and private companies in the community who hire or potentially hire graduates and take students as interns.

Job Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

-Work effectively and collaboratively with program faculty and staff to develop, implement, and evaluate learning outcomes and curriculum of this program.

-Mentor adjunct faculty, teaching both face-to-face and online, as appropriate to meet program goals, objectives and accreditation requirements.

-In collaboration with department and division chair and college administrators, participate in the recruitment and hiring of program faculty.

-Collaborate with college personnel to ensure and promote program quality assurance and appropriate classroom, lab space and equipment, budgetary needs and technical improvements.

-In collaboration with faculty, department chair and/or division chair as appropriate, manage individual student issues.

-Work collaboratively with program support and advising staff to inform potential and current students of program requirements. Work collaboratively with all on-campus services in support of students and program needs.

-Represent the college's criminal justice program on local, regional, and state organizations and committees.

-In collaboration with the Division Chair, manage program budgets.

-Develop and submit annual and quarterly academic program schedules.

-Support and contribute to WCC's criminal justice advisory committee membership and meetings.

-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Salary and Appointment

Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field (Sociology, Criminology).

-Five years of work experience in criminal justice.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master’s degree in criminal justice or related field.

-Experience in online education.

-Experience in curriculum development and in assessing learning outcomes.

Salary:

-Based on the current adjunct salary scale, with an additional quarterly stipend for program coordination of $1,641.75. For specific salary inquiries, please contact human resources at jobs@whatcom.edu.
