Job Summary :

Under supervision of the Central Service Supervisor the Sterile Process Tech II is responsible for monitoring activities related to sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection for their assigned shift.

Participates in staff evaluations, daily shift assignments, and performance improvement activities for the department. Participates in the orientation of new employees.

Acts as a liaison between Central Services and other hospital departments to ensure availability of instrumentation and equipment as needed for patient care.

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

What You Will Need :

Central Service Tech Certification from IAHCSMM or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

One-year previous Central Service experience or Surgical Tech experience

You Will Be Responsible For :

Works in conjunction with the management team to plan for daily staffing assignments based on workload and labor standards.

Prioritizes work throughout the shift to ensure instrumentation and equipment are available as needed. In the absence of department leadership, assumes responsibilities of the CS Supervisor / Manager.

Monitors sterilization practices to ensure all standards are met. Keeps accurate records of all sterilizer loads. Utilizes knowledge of sterilization parameters and takes corrective action if parameters are not met.

Ensures safe work practices for all employees. Monitors staff use of PPE in decontamination area. Promotes a safe environment.

Takes appropriate action in emergency situations, demonstrates awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors and employees.

Monitors work environment to ensure infection control standards are met. Ensures department is cleaned on a daily basis.

Monitors environmental controls (temp and humidity, air flow) and takes corrective action as needed. Identifies and reports any other environmental concerns to the management team.

Identifies and resolves issues associated with malfunctioning equipment.

Acts as a liaison between all hospital departments that utilize Central Services to ensure needs of the customer are met.

Communicates with Surgery staff to ensure instrumentation is available as needed for cases.

Assists with training of new employees. Provides feedback to both orientee and manager on progress.

Oversees and monitors supply / equipment inventory as required for department and patient care areas as needed.

Maintains competency by attending continuing education seminars related to Central Service issues and attending in-services on new equipment and instrumentation in the department.

Participates in department Performance Improvement projects.
