The Pharmacy Manager is accountable for management, oversight and operation of all aspects of the pharmacy within his/her store including pharmacy professional practice, regulatory requirements, quality assurance, customer service, personnel management, inventory management, financial profitability and loss prevention. A key component of the Pharmacy Manager role is keeping customers and patients healthy through adoption and management of our patient care programs. Pharmacy Managers are also responsible for the development and performance management of all Pharmacy Staff, identification of critical business opportunities, establishing meaningful solutions to drive performance and growth and successfully implementing those plans by managing the Pharmacy Staff to accomplish these goals.SCOPE: This job description applies to all full time Pharmacy Managers outside of CaliforniaESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Customer Service / Patient Care / Quality Assurance The Pharmacy Manager delivers, and leads others to deliver, exceptional service to our customers Offers and provides clinical services, such as health screenings and the administration of immunizationso Effective 8/1/2020, immunizing is an essential function of the job for all pharmacists, no exceptions Establishes trust and confidence with customers and patients by ensuring Pharmacy Staff is maintaining service standards according to company guidelineso This includes diagnosing the root cause of service opportunities and implementing actions with the Pharmacy Staff when necessary Immediately acknowledges and greets customers in a courteous and professional manner and coaches Pharmacy Staff to do the same Helps to minimize healthcare costs by assisting customers that are affected by changes in programs, legislation, and Third Party insurance Actively meets and exceeds customer needs by driving compliance and adoption of all pharmacy workflow standardsRevised July 2020o Including ensuring the appropriate schedule is implemented to best serve the needsof the customer and business in accordance with budgeted payroll hours andworkflow model Partners with front store management to drive and develop solutions to enhance customerexperience Assists pharmacy and front store customers with their questions and concerns Takes accountability for customer and patient satisfaction and persists to resolve theperson’s unique problems until a solution is found Helps patients and customers on their path to better health by providing counseling whenappropriate Solicits information about a customer’s medical history to give appropriate medical advice Maintains high quality assurance standards by leveraging the appropriate systems and toolsduring final verification, Drug Utilization Review (DUR), dispensing incident notification andreport completion Communicates and collaborates with all healthcare professionals to provide coordinated andoptimal patient careProfessional Practice Keeps our communities safe by ensuring Pharmacy Staff compliance with all federal andstate laws, rules and regulations and CVS policy and procedures at all timeso Includes exercising corresponding responsibility and professional judgment in thefilling of all controlled substances Keeps our colleagues safe by enforcing a safe work environment that fulfills the requiredregulatory and company policies and procedures and holds colleagues accountable formaintaining such an environment Maintains through the team a clean, organized and professional pharmacy department,according to CVS standards Communicates with customers/patients while protecting their confidential health and druginformation according to HIPAA Participates in all required aspects of the prescription filling and pick-up process and use ofpharmacy computer system including, but not limited to, operating the cash register, dataentry of prescription orders, and resolving Third Party issues. Retrieves and files prescriptionsappropriately according to State and Federal Law Communicates with Field Management and Corporate regarding any required reportingincluding, but not limited to, regulatory agency visits and maintains confidentiality thereof Actively prevents diversion and theft by complying with all Asset Protection procedures.Properly secures the pharmacy department, safe, and pharmacy department accesso Includes properly reporting loss of drug product in accordance with state and federalguidelinesPersonnel Management Ensures the entire Pharmacy Team is positioned to help patients on their path to better healthby providing timely and ongoing feedback, both appreciative and developmental To best serve our customers and meet our financial goals, communicates performanceexpectations and results to the Pharmacy Staff. Organizes information and importantcorrespondence in a way that can be easily understood and accessed by the Pharmacy StaffRevised July 2020 Formulates clear objectives, relays pertinent information to Pharmacy Staff and holds themaccountable for meeting objectives To establish a broad base of highly skilled team members capable of delivering on ourcompany purpose, the Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the training and development ofthe Pharmacy Staff Provides a performance review and evaluation of Staff Pharmacists, Interns, and Techniciansaccording to scheduled review process Keeping our company values in mind, the Pharmacy Manager interviews, identifies andselects the best talent with a range of diverse backgrounds and experiences Completes all required training and compliance programs and ensures that all other staffmembers do the same Balances assignments that capitalize on people's strengths with stretch opportunities toenable maximum development in and across the organization Acts as a trusted coach and mentor both within their line of responsibility and beyond Clearly and regularly communicates performance and behavior expectations to PharmacyStaff including, but not limited to, maintaining a work environment free from unlawfuldiscrimination and harassment Using his/her independent judgment, responsible for making or effectively recommending alldecisions regarding human resources of the Pharmacy Staff including but not limited to,hiring, transferring, suspending, making decisions regarding reductions in force, recallingindividuals from such reductions in force, promoting, discharging, assigning, rewarding anddiscipliningOperations Management Understands all aspects of the pharmacy, assesses ongoing operations, and develops andexecutes plans to improve pharmacy performanceRequired QualificationsRemaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for moving from one work area toanother Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than whole handor arm Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist Stooping to a considerable degree and requiring full use of the lower extremities and backmuscles Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; those activities where detailed orimportant spoken instructions must be conveyed accurately Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, andhaving the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: transcribing,viewing a computer terminal, reading, visual inspection involving small parts Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs Exerting up to 30 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or anegligible amount of force constantly to move objectsMinimum Required Qualifications Active Pharmacy License in the state in which he/she is employed Not on the DEA Excluded Parties List Immunization Certification through an accredited organization (i.e. APhA) Listed on the pharmacy state license as the ‘pharmacist in charge’ No pending felony charges or convictions for criminal offenses involving controlledsubstancesPreferred Qualifications.EducationBachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.
