This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.Provide the management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company's operational and strategic insurance risk. Work with Business Development colleagues, customers and insurance providers to assist launch customers to obtain appropriate insurance coverage for payloads being launched by Virgin Orbit. Ensures the company’s insurance coverage complies with applicable regulations and the strategic direction of the company. Serve as a resource to colleagues to monitor and analyze insurance risks within the company's business units and report on these risks to the Chief Administrative Officer. Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.With information supplied by the CEO, Chief Administrative Officer and the Board of Directors, the Director of Insurance will implement the strategic direction, governance and management of insurance risk for the company. An important objective will be the execution of strategies to support customers who need to obtain appropriate insurance coverage for their payloads. In this role, the Director of Insurance will also identify, evaluate, mitigate and monitor the company’s operational and strategic insurance risk. In addition, the Director of Insurance is responsible for the maintaining good working relationships with third party service providers to the company and its customers, including brokers, advisors and insurers. Responsible for risk evaluations and support the preparations of analyses, budgets and insurance planning. Works closely with the Chief Administrative Officer in the procurement, review and competitive marketing of insurance policies for all the company’s assets and liability insurance coverage, worker’s compensation insurance coverage, and executive risk insurance coverage. Work closely with Business Development colleagues to develop strategies to assist customers to obtain appropriate insurance coverage for their payloads

Insurance/Broker Oversight and Liaison

Policy and Procedure Development

Essential Functions Develops, recommends, and implements plans, policies, and programs for all company insurance coverage to protect the human, physical, and financial assets of the company Review, negotiate, obtain, and authorize binding of best policy packages to meet company objectives and adequate risk coverage Prepare and implement strategies to assist customers to obtain appropriate insurance coverage for their payloads Prepare loss analyses and identify risk exposures Understand and accurately interpret laws, rules, regulations, and other guidelines relating to insurance coverage and risk management Reviews and analyzes company loss exposures, claims, and insurance needs and makes recommendations for treatment techniques to include insurance coverage Serve as liaison and resource for commercial insurance issues, inquiries, and operations across the business, including in foreign countries as needed Partner and work with brokers to obtain best coverage/cost mix for operations within Commercial Insurance Assume primary responsibility in responding to personal injury and vehicle accidents by investigation and preparing and filing reports to carrier, and management Monitor and oversee Driver Training program With the support of the People Team oversee initial reporting for all work-related accidents and incidents and representative for all workers’ compensation appeal hearings Provide and maintain records, including insurance policies, claim and loss experience. Assist in the review of major contracts, proposed facilities, and/or new program activities for loss and insurance implications. In cooperation with General Counsel, maintain control over the claims process to assure that claims are being settled fairly, consistently, and in the best interest of the entity.
