DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Assist in the collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of environmental health epidemiologic data using SAS / SPSS / STATA to provide accurate, complete, and timely data for products such as GIS maps, abstracts and presentations.

Design or revise data capture, manipulation, and analysis systems using data management and programming skills as required.

Analyze data, formulate conclusions, and prepare reports for community, medical and scientific organizations.

Working with the epidemiologist / s, plan, prepare, and deliver presentations and scientific posters. Lead consultation, outreach, and education on public health and environmental / occupational health issues.

Present, publish, and report epidemiologic findings and professional experiences via professional journals, national and regional conferences, and other means as appropriate, to disseminate information and advance scientific knowledge.

Assist the toxicologist / s in conducting environmental health risk assessments as needed.

Report key findings and ensure that planning and design of surveillance systems complies with and supports regulations, policies and procedures.

Compare data elements with national position statements. Update and improve data systems and databases. Provide definition of database requirements / data elements.

Develop evaluation tools and methods for quantitative and qualitative data. Develop and use quality assurance data tools, all to ensure surveillance and investigation data meets published quality, timeliness and accuracy standards and protocols for the environmental / occupation epidemiological program.

Interpret data concepts such as Lifetime Health Advisory Levels (LHAL), Maximum Containment Levels (MCLs), Minimum Risk Levels (MRLs), Cancer Risk Evaluation Guidelines (CREGs), Health Comparison Values (CVs), no-observed-adverse-effects levels (NOAEL), lowest-observed-adverse-effects levels (LOAEL) for environmental media and their relationships to environmental public health practice.

Assist in maintaining and updating all environmental / occupational health fact sheets and other contents on the division’s web page.

Participate in workgroups, conference calls, conferences, etc. to build awareness of Pennsylvania environmental / occupational epidemiology programs and contribute to the public health infrastructure.

Participate in district level or quarterly epidemiology meetings and public health preparedness events as assigned.

Work with epidemiologist / s to plan and carry out environmental / occupational studies, including biomonitoring studies, using acceptable principles of environmental / occupational health epidemiological investigations, to ensure the quality, timeliness and completeness of each investigation or study.

Under the guidance of an epidemiologist, provide technical assistance and consultation to Department field staff, county / municipal health departments, and healthcare providers to ensure that investigations and studies are conducted in compliance / protocol with state, federal, DOH, etc policies and procedures for the environmental and occupational health program.

Provide reports of epidemiological investigations or studies with conclusions used in planning or follow-up. Participate in developing evidence-based interventions, control, containment, or mitigation measures.

Recommend public health or environmental health follow-up steps to further protect the health of a community.

Prepare descriptive, narrative, and statistical reports using methods common to epidemiologic analysis. Explain relevance and limitations of data and its application to environmental / occupational health programs to protect public health.

Evaluate data collection, reporting, and investigation methods and systems, and prepares reports with recommendations for improvement.

Make recommendations for additional training of epidemiological staff. Develop and conduct training sessions for field personnel on data collection, reporting, and methods, to ensure compliance with accepted

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications :

PA residency currently waived for this title

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements : One year of professional experience performing public health or environmental health epidemiological investigations or studies, or designing and managing a disease surveillance system;

and a master's degree that includes or is supplemented by six credits in epidemiology, environmental health, statistics, or research.
