Job Description

NOTE: This is a temporary hourly position for 6 months, with hours generally expected to be 30-40+ hours per week, with a possibility of extension.

  • Performs engineering design of mechanical equipment, material handling and piping as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Prepares calculations of piping and equipment sizing within industrial operations
  • Checks and reviews drawings (e.g., GA’s, Piping plans, Piping Isometrics, P&ID’s) for compliance with established codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Provides design advice and support to designers and drafters
  • Supports equipment procurement by producing equipment data sheets soliciting quotations, and evaluating vendor bids
  • Prepares reports and other technical documentation as required by clientele
  • Assists with engineering proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and other documentation to support project development.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other team members, including managers, engineers, designers, and drafters
  • Communicates with vendors and contractors
  • Maintains health, safety, and environmental focus to ensure that these elements are embedded in the design and procurement processes.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited school
  • Registered as a Mechanical EIT in Canada or eligible for registration
  • Ideally, 1-2 years of relevant Engineering experience in a heavy industrial setting;

    Oil & Gas, pulp and paper, Mining or biofuels industry is an asset
  • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with team members; proficient in oral and written communication.
  • Proactive with a high degree of initiative.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Cross-functional knowledge and experience with process P&IDs and process design, as well as coordination experience with civil/structural and electrical design, is preferred
  • Excellent grasp of engineering principles and experience assessing complex systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in both a design office and operating plant environments
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed, approximately 20% of time
  • Bilingual language skills an asset - English/French

NOTE: Must have a valid Driver’s license as there will be some travel required to industrial sites, primarily in British Columbia.
