The Program Manager will largely focus on managing logistics, operations, and programming for our Summer Teaching Fellowship (STF) program, which is a unique, highly competitive teacher recruitment and preparation program built to introduce college juniors from underrepresented backgrounds to teaching and urban education reform through experience in our Uncommon classrooms! The Program Manager will also support other Diversity Team programming and initiatives

This position reports to the Sr. AD of DEI and will also work closely with the Director of DEI.

Crucial duties & responsibilities

The position requires a smart, hard-working teammate who can handle both critical projects and smaller details with equal passion and efficiency. The majority of the role will be owning the Summer Teaching Fellowship (STF) Program.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • STF Program Management
    • Ensure program success by meeting program goals and providing an optimal experience for Fellows
    • Support the creation of onboarding and program materials
    • Plan and execute major program events, including orientation week, professional development training, and social activities
    • Support and drive the hiring of Mentor Teachers and Summer Academy Directors for the program
    • Drive all communications related to the program and Fellow’s experience
    • Liaison with teams that support STF program to ensure operational success (e.g. HR in payroll, finance in budgeting)
    • Lead and make decisions related to STF programming and operations
    • Maintain and run STF budget for monthly and quarterly reporting
  • STF Candidate Outreach, Recruitment, and Selection
    • Act as the STF hiring manager for Recruitment counterpart, providing insight into our goals and the candidate profile
    • Lead the program adjustments based on candidate pools and demographic data
    • Support the execution of STF candidate interview days
  • STF Experience
    • Disseminate weekly surveys to Mentor Teachers and Fellows to supervise STF experience and foster the continual improvement of experience and program
    • Support Fellows and lead partner experience for the duration of the program
    • Partner with Recruitment Team and School Leaders to develop an engagement strategy for the most recent cohort
    • Plan and administer cultivation touch-points with recent alumni
    • Find opportunities to continue to engage larger STF alum network within Uncommon
  • Operations and logistics for DEI Programs
    • Execute on operational support for team programs including scheduling, reservations, set up, meeting materials, and booking travel needs
    • Process team expense reports and invoices related to program operations
    • Collect, input, and support data analysis to measure program effectiveness and future program direction
    • Write and create reports, presentations, and communication on DEI programs to internal and external partners

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Characteristics

  • Commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools
  • Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills; especially with respect to project management and balancing multiple projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively and speak publicly
  • “Customer service” mentality; able to work with a wide range of partners
  • Self-directed approach and ability to take initiative while still contributing to a team; “Problem-solver” mentality
  • Ability to create and maintain systems that enhance team efficiency
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven skill in project plan development
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn data compilation and analyses
  • Willingness to work some nights and weekends as required for program execution
  • Demonstrated commitment to growth and personal development in the area of DEI and actively seeks out opportunities to learn more in this space
  • 2+ years of experience in starting and running a recruitment/development program
  • 2+ years of experience in handling program budgets

Minimum educational level

  • Bachelor’s degree required
