Description and FunctionsOpen Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Plan, organize & execute communication activities that reach the enterprise, public, media, and the Legislature through all forms of printed & electronic media, social media. Coordinate communications activities within all Divisions at Administration and InformationHuman Resource Contact: Nicki Reitmeyer 307-777-6219, nicki.reitmeyer@wyo.govESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.Respond to questions about the Department from the public, media, LSO, and legislation when needed on a wide variety of issues.

Provide information and contacts on a number of subjects to the media, public, other govt. agencies, the Legislature, and the Governor’s office.

Designs write and edit special and periodic agency reports, articles, and news releases for publications, reports, periodicals, or the press by researching and organizing information to explain, document, or promote agency activities.

Writes or edits material for the news media and the public at the request of the Department Director, Governor's office, and Administrators.

Interact with all levels of Department personnel.

Advice, counsel, write, and intercede for and with them in matters concerning interdepartmental, legislative, public, and media contacts.

Make final decisions regarding form, style, content, layout, publication, and distribution.

Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.

Guides and trains staff at all levels in developing written or oral presentations.

Work as a liaison with other agencies, branches, and special interest parties to provide information, coordination, and cooperation.

May serve on special projects within the agency and cooperative efforts with other agencies.

Work with division personnel to develop consistent communication that accomplishes stated goals and objectives through different means, including the agency website.

Provide technical assistance on publications and edit a wide variety of communications designed to communicate the agency's research, accomplishments, and goals to a wide range of audiences.

Evaluate the possibility of starting a statewide newsletter.

Communicate critical information effectively to the public.

QualificationsPREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those with strong writing skills. Writing samples may be requested. Preference may be given to those with experience presenting to the media and public.Preference may be given to those with a degree in Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communications, etc.KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of and experience with social science theories and research methodologies.

Knowledge of and experience with public participation techniques.

Knowledge of public records requests, policies, and procedures.

Knowledge of strategic planning practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Public Relations)Experience:0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist IIOREducation & Experience Substitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist IICertificates, Licenses, Registrations:NoneNecessary Special RequirementsNOTES: FLSA: Non-Exempt
