Position Description

The Wisconsin Humane Society – Milwaukee Campus is looking for a professional, goal and detail-oriented team player to join our team as a full-time or part-time Facility Maintenance Specialist, working 25-40 hours/week. This position will be based at our Milwaukee Campus and may on occasion travel to other WHS locations.

Position Summary

Job Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Repairs to animal enclosures, displays and general facility materials as needed

-Preventative care to heating / cooling systems

-Floor care including use of auto scrubbers and burnishers

-Electrical and plumbing repairs

-Maintaining proper inventory for cleaning supplies / equipment

-Patching/painting drywall

-Grounds upkeep to include grass cutting, trimming, snow/ice removal

-Classroom setups

-Working with contractor and vendors for building maintenance repairs and the ordering of supplies

Qualifications & Requirements​

This is primarily a first shift position that may include occasional weekend hours and requires ‘on call’ availability. Other qualifications include:

-5+ years previous maintenance experience required, experience in a high traffic, commercial facility preferred

-High school diploma or equivalent required

-Must be able to safely lift and carry 75lbs

-Must be able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and heavy work

-Good interpersonal skills, teamwork, common sense, flexibility and the ability to work successfully in a fast paced environment required

-Commitment to treat animals with kindness

-A valid and current driver’s license is required, as this position does travel between our locations

Paid time-off will be prorated based on the full-time hire date and is available after 45 days of consecutive employment. About Us

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, and Brown Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, educational programming, and veterinary resources for animals from low-income households, retail stores, volunteer programs, and dog training classes. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the states busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
