The Expeditors Supply Chain Solutions group engages with customers in a variety of supply chain improvement projects, including network design, transport flow optimization, process optimization and inventory analysis. As an engineer within this group, you will be responsible for comprehensive analytics, modeling, optimization and simulation related to our customers’ supply chains using state of the art supply chain optimization and simulation software. Equally important, the engineer prepares effective and efficient presentations that tell the story of the engagement. Projects within the group are very diverse in terms of scope, industry and world regions and you will contribute to the solving these needs.

You’ll be expected to analyze problems and situations, and to develop solutions in partnership with internal and external stakeholders that are realistic and can be implemented. Typical project goals include maximizing resource effectiveness, reducing costs, optimizing inventory levels and achieving the highest possible levels of quality and customer satisfaction. You will be working in an environment that is fast paced and highly collaborative, both internally and with customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with several parties including clients, suppliers, and internal organizations. Must quickly develop in-depth knowledge of the situation so that the current process can be appropriately modeled and solutions developed. This requires critical thinking and effective communication skills not only to extract information and understand it, but to present ideas and solutions in an easy-to-understand way.
  • Leverages substantial amounts of complex data, both quantitative and qualitative. Must understand what the data means and how to increase its integrity in order to analyze both the current situation and alternate scenarios.
  • Uses sophisticated software tools to build models. Must display expertise in all the aspects (mathematics, constraints, business processes, etc.) of modeling, optimization and simulation and problem at hand.
  • Prepares presentation materials that ‘tell the story’ of the engagement in an efficient and effective manner to key internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Understands internal and client feedback and incorporates changes to the model or presentation.
  • Shares talents and knowledge within the organization to create an environment of continuous learning.
  • Provides periodic, relevant and organized communication to key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing business problems and then proposing and building solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with converting hard (quantitative) and soft (qualitative) data into a comprehensive baseline or solution.
  • Have advanced skills in tools including those for modeling (SaS Viya and CAS programing), databases (SQL server) and visualization (Tableau, Power BI and SaS Visual Analytics). Experience in SaS 9.4 preferred.
  • Experience with supply chain modeling software or concepts required.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, and SQL Server required.
  • Experience in working directly with clients and with the nuances associated with supplier-customer relationships.
  • Working knowledge of freight, logistics or transportation industry is preferred.
  • An understanding of data flows (EDI), as well as Expeditors internal data structures is a plus.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors of Science, or higher, in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science Systems Engineering or Applied Mathematics/Sciences with relevant work experience. Master of Science in the above disciplines is desired. Minimum 5 years of supply chain experience required with proven record of accomplishment of successfully delivering technically complex projects that solve business / industry challenges.
