About our Engineering team:Our Engineering team’s mission is to promote a data driven decision-making culture to solve homelessness. We do this by combining a team of experts in development, analytics, database infrastructure and integration with social services experience. From Feature Releases into Clarity Human Services, to development project initiatives, to system infrastructure and QA engineering, we play an integral role in the ongoing stability and enhancement of Clarity Human Services.

Success/Impact Statement:The Director of Engineering sits on the Leadership Team and will drive innovation and competitive advantage through the use of technology and unique ways of applying it to business problems. You will establish and execute technical vision, strategies and plans for growth and expansion. This is a critical role that will serve as an architect and technical leader to help define, promote and achieve the overall technical vision.

As the Director of Software Engineering, you will:
  • Lead the technological development of the organization as it matures into lean, high performing agile teams.
  • Scale the software development teams by finding and hiring the right mix of on-shore and off-shore resources.
  • Implement and utilize predictive modeling and analytics to “tell a story” with our data.
  • Oversee all product development and engineering resources.
  • Communicate with team members, stakeholders and customers to ensure Bitfocus’ technologies are used appropriately.
  • Develop, track and control the development of annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing, and operations.
  • Oversee the planning, scoping, estimating and prioritization of complex projects.
  • Works with other departments to use new technologies to streamline company policies and rules.
  • Develop and direct all networking safeguards to reduce the risk of outside breaches and protect sensitive internal and external client information.
  • Actively engage in sprint planning, delivery and managing releases.
  • Ensure consistent best practices, processes, and procedures for software development, quality assurance, and maintenance.

Required experience that drives success in this role:
  • 7+ years of proven experience in a hands-on management role with a software engineering background.
  • Software engineering/developer background with preferred familiarity with Linux Service Platforms, AWS, MariaDB/MySQL, PHP, PHP Frameworks, APIs (RESTful & SOAP), and virtualization.
  • 10+ years building applications utilizing Web Services.
  • Strategic thinking and strong business acumen.
  • Well versed in current technological trends in order to build a growth strategy.
  • Experience with Large-Scale Databases and Data Warehouses.

  • Previous experience leading an organization in a technical leadership role, preferably at the Executive level.

  • Experience using agile methodologies in sometimes ambiguous situations.
