Title: Human Resources Generalist

Job Summary: Responsible for numerous Human Resource responsibilities including, but not limited to, administrative functions, recruiting and hiring, benefits, worker’s compensation, safety, orientation, employee appreciation and retention.

Job Relationships:

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

Employees Supervised: None

Job Specifications:

4 year degree or an associate’s degree required.

Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification preferred.

Experience in recruiting and hiring preferred.

Experience in workers compensation claims processing and management preferred.

Advanced computer experience in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Automatic Data Processing (ADP) preferred.

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks.

Ability to remain calm while working under pressure in a busy environment.

Demonstrated experience in verbal and written communication in a professional setting.

Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality.

Ability to work within framework of standard policies and procedures.

Responsible for compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws.

Per WSI Vehicle Insurance standards: must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be added to WSI’s vehicle insurance policy.

Subject to WSI’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.

Must be comfortable driving a 15-passenger van in various weather conditions.

Specific Duties:

Respond to applicant inquires in-person, over the phone and via email.

Process and review employment applications to evaluate qualifications and eligibility of applicants.

Conduct reference checks from previous employers and other references to determine applicants’ employment eligibility.

Interview and hire qualified employees.

Explain company personnel policies, benefits and procedures to newly hired and current employees.

Create and maintain complete and confidential files on each employee.

Process, verify and maintain documentation relating to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, performance evaluations and classifications.

Assist in managing workers compensation claims. File reports with insurance provider, maintain accident information and monitor progress to provide an “early return to work” program if possible for injured employee.

Provide periodic reports for analyzing workers’ comp claims and costs.

Administer company-wide Safety program, including bi-weekly presentations, newsletter creation and distribution, and organizing consultant site visits.

Responds to various information requests from governmental agencies, such as Unemployment, in a timely manner.

Obtain information for authorized persons and organization, such as credit bureaus, background checks and finance companies.

Record and maintain data for each employee, including such information as addresses, weekly earnings, absences, supervisory reports on performance, change of statuses, and dates of and reasons for terminations.

Answers questions regarding eligibility, salaries, benefits and other pertinent information.

Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions.

Attend staff meetings and HR training as available.

Assist with International employees to include apartment preparation, HR check-in process, transportation to the Social Security Office, Host Family Program, and help provide a positive work & cultural experience.

Assists in various operational departments as requested.

All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas. Follow up notification will be done to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity.

Work Environment:

Light physical activity required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds infrequently.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time up to 6 hours daily.

Requires extended periods of computer keyboard use and viewing a computer monitor.

Ability to work in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.

Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays as required.

Non smoking environment.
