Payment is via employee payroll, not as independent contractor.

Independent contractors pay a higher self employed tax rate at the end of the year than the employee payroll tax, and most places which pay as an independent contractor require the 'employee?' to pay 4% GE sales tax on their pay. Real independent contractors charge that 4% tax to their client. In reality, all LMT being paid as an independent contractor should be charging their boss for the 4%. Otherwise you are paying sales tax on your own income, so you're paying tax twice on the same dollar.

Owner's who pay employees as independent contractors are violating state and federal labor law.

If you are being paid as an independent contractor, please be aware that the state would require that employer to pay your workers comp if you were injured, and your unemployment check if you were laid off. Just call the state UI office or Dept of labor.
