GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for maintaining grounds using hand or power tools or equipment and keeping buildings in clean and orderly condition including performing minor maintenance in accordance with military standards. It will also maintain storage cabinets in accordance with environmental regulations such as Hazardous, Flammable, and Corrosive regulations. Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for performing routine repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds of all Wyoming Military Department facilities using a variety of hand or power tools and self-propelled equipment to keep buildings in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.Human Resource Contact: 307-777-8120 matthew.nix@wyo.govESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Responsible for general cleaning, vacuuming carpeted floors, stripping/waxing/polishing concrete and solid wood floors, mopping/scrubbing/buffing tiled and other types of floors, dusting furniture, emptying trash and recycling containers, washing windows and mirrors, cleaning/stocking restrooms, locker rooms, and offices. Dust and clean light fixtures of debris and bugs as needed.

  • Performs ground maintenance duties which include; mowing, trimming, aerating, and weeding grass in the summer months along with care and maintenance of irrigation systems, trees, shrubs, and flowers.

  • Performs winter seasonal tasks such as clearing roadways and sidewalks of snow and ice. Responsible for pest control as needed.

  • Maintains the inventory of custodial supplies and reports to supervisor with custodial supply needs.

  • Perform seasonal maintenance to include, start-up, irrigation adjustments, daily operations, shut down winterization on irrigation systems.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on facilities and grounds. Assists other grounds or trades personnel on projects.

  • Assists with identifying life safety issues within statewide facilities. Testing emergency lighting for proper operations. Perform lighting checks within assigned facilities changing bulbs as necessary and reporting on potential electrical issues.

  • Performs routine / preventative maintenance on all wheeled vehicles, tractors, trailers, ATV’s, mowing, and snow removal equipment.

  • Utilize computer workstation for logging information into the work order system, completing work orders, receiving/sending emails.

  • Submits purchase requests for replacement parts for tractors, mowers, custodial equipment, and other equipment.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to those with a High School Diploma, Plus 6 months of progressive work experience typically in Building and Grounds maintenance.

Agency requires the successful applicant to have a valid Driver's License

Required to obtain/maintain Federal Security Clearance.KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, understanding SDS sheets to ensure knowledge of potentially hazardous chemicals

  • Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance

  • Skilled in custodial maintenance

  • Skilled in operating light and heavy-duty equipment

  • Knowledge of basic math, irrigation systems, basic electricity, and lawn care

  • Knowledge of Blood Borne Pathogens

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High School Diploma

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant I

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant I

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, body parts, bio-hazards, potentially explosive, and elements.

  • Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.

  • Travel is estimated at 10-20% including day trips to Casper, Douglas, Gilette, Lander, and Sheridan with occasional overnight trips.
