Accountant or Senior Accountant Location – In-office position, Roanoke, VA. Adams Construction Company is one of the oldest asphalt paving firms in Virginia. The Accountant or Senior Accountant position will allow the selected candidate the opportunity to be exposed to various competencies within the organization. This position supports the overall objectives of the global finance and accounting group and will model behaviors in alignment with our vision, mission, values, and goals. DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate and oversee various month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, analysis, and financial reporting.

Assists with special projects, implementation, enhancements, and training, including ERP system and functionality.

Prepare and file personal property tax returns with state and local tax agencies.

Manage monthly credit card reconciliations, including data transfer in ERP.

Accurately file multi-state sales and use tax returns on a monthly basis.

Coordination of external insurance audits, including data gathering and analysis.

Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.

Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Collaborate with team members to foster a culture of continuous learning, and growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field, and 2+ years of related experience; or 7+ years of related experience without degree or certification; Construction accounting experience preferred.

Experience with ERP or accounting software, construction software preferred.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and other Microsoft products.

Critical thinking skills/solutions, stream-lining – should be able to suggest and implement process improvements

Strong team player with demonstrated ability to prioritize and juggle multiple deadlines simultaneously

Strong interpersonal skills

Must have initiative to identify and self-start projects
