About the Position
As an Equipment Operator (https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/capaz/classspecs?keywords=Equipment%20Operator) you would perform all work associated with operation and maintenance functions involving the Safe Driving, transporting, and/or operating the following, Dump Truck, Equipment Trailer, Water Truck, Backhoe, Loader, Small Dozer, and Mowing Tractor. This equipment is used for maintenance of the aqueduct, dikes, and civil structures of the Central Arizona Project. Additional duties include carpentry, concrete, welding, fencing and vegetation control. The work contributes to the efficient and reliable operation of Central Arizona Project (CAP) Aqueduct, Pumping Plants, and related facilities, and supports the reliable delivery of water to CAP customers.
Some of the responsibilities include:
Drives, transports and/or operates the following: dump truck with equipment trailer, backhoe, small dozer, loader, water truck, bobcat, forklift, and mowing tractor. Performs vehicle and equipment pre-maintenance and safety checks as required and makes necessary repairs. Services and maintains adjustments on equipment to ensure proper positioning and operation of equipment.
Performs a variety of maintenance functions which include operations, maintenance and repair of security fence and drainage structures. Performs repairs and replacement of concrete liner.
Assembles and uses tools, materials, equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
Uses small hand and power tools to perform routine maintenance tasks.
About the Qualifications
Successful candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of craft training or experience. The preferred craft training and/or experience would include two (2) years of experience on 1 of the following (backhoe, small dozer (D3), loader, bobcat, mowing tractor, dump truck with equipment trailer and water truck). Must understand construction processes, terminology, and basic construction safety rules and be able to identify and properly use hand and power tools.Certifications or Licenses:
A valid driver's license and a good driving record.
Must successfully obtain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement within nine months of hire.
Will be required to obtain an applicators license to apply herbicides after hire.
