This position supervises the RN Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS) and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, quality and integrity of data entered into the 3M Documentation Management system.Creates and maintains methods, operational procedures and policies for clinical documentation processes within HMC. Provides training for staff in areas such as technical knowledge, customer service and professional development. The key contact for the CDP and is a resource to administrative staff, physicians, managers and others. Provides clinical insights necessary for responding to and challenging insurance denials and has primary responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to documentation improvement. Responsible for all functions necessary to implement, maintain and improve data integrity of the 3M Clinical Documentation Module, and to promote integration with the business intelligence system (HBI). He/she will work collaboratively with the Director to identify areas of alignment and integration with HMC’s quality and safety agenda.

Ensures appropriate reimbursement for inpatient care, as well as correct reporting of epidemiological, quality, and safety data that is both internally and externally reported. Impacts HMC CMI by ensuring complete documentation capture of all conditions and co-morbidities. Collaborates with the CDS staff to respond to and challenge insurance denials and ensure complete reimbursement for care provided. Works collaboratively with the Director to identify areas of alignment and integration with UWMC’s quality and safety agenda.A higher degree of healthcare. RN license.

BSN degree in Nursing.

6 years recent clinical experience in an acute inpatient hospital setting with in-depth knowledge of medical and surgical care; management experience; ability to organize and prioritize, with attention to detail; proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills; exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively; effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills; strong fundamental knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and measurementUniversity of Washington is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer.
