Position Summary:The Lead Operator is a key role within the TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) manufacturing plant. They are responsible for performing extruder and auto-packer operator duties and able to expertly run all jobs in the department. Additionally, they play a crucial part in training new employees and coaching existing staff. The Lead Operator coordinates break schedules, provides relief during breaks and lunches, assists the supervisor as directed, completes required paperwork, and fills in for the supervisor during absences. A good growth role and succession plan for those desiring to be production supervisors in the future.Work schedule follows a “7 on – 2 off – 7 on – 2 off – 6 on – 4 off” of rotating shifts covering the days off of first, second, and third shiftEssential Job Functions:The Lead Operator’s responsibilities include:

Safety Leadership:

Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and actively promote a safe culture within the team.

Exhibit a keen sense of urgency regarding safety, food safety, and production.

Capable of executing a full Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedure for all equipment and their auxiliary systems.

Support CIP (Clean-in-Place) and Preventative Maintenance tasks on designated cleaning days.

Versatility and Expertise:

Be capable of filling any role within the TVP manufacturing plant, including extrusion operator, packaging operator, and warehouse operator.

Demonstrate expertise in all aspects of operations, including safety, risk assessment, process execution, process control, and troubleshooting.

Supervisory Role Extension:

Act as an extension of the shift supervisor and TVP Leadership.

Drive execution and accountability across all aspects of operations.

Competently complete supervisory tasks when needed.

Operational Coverage:

Cover vacations, overtime, and other operational gaps as required.

Provide assistance to all lines to meet safety, food safety, and production targets.

Strategic Initiatives and Performance Excellence:

Support strategic department initiatives, including layered audits, standard work, why-why analyses, and DMAIC projects.

Provide coverage to allow other colleagues to participate in deployments and initiatives.

Training and Qualification Leadership:

Effectively lead training and qualification initiatives as a Subject Matter Expert across all job roles and lines.

Troubleshooting and Continuous Improvement:

Efficiently troubleshoot plant issues.

Drive continuous improvement efforts.

Data Analysis and Deviation Rectification:

Analyze and interpret data/trends related to process optimization and product quality characteristics.

Effectively rectify deviations.

Leadership Skills:

Demonstrate strong leadership skills with an owner’s mentality.

Be a proactive and deliberate decision-maker.

Sanitary Conditions and Gemba Walks:

Be accountable for maintaining a high level of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and sanitary conditions within the building.

Actively participate in Gemba Walks

Job Requirements:

Required Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Desired Experience:

2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment

Experience with single and twin screw extruders

Fork Truck certified

Experience with auto-packers and supersack packaging equipment

Experience operating equipment using HMI control systems

On-The-Job Training Requirements:

New colleagues will need to undergo on-the-job training to acquire skills and certifications, which will be assessed according to established standards

Complete ADM safety, food safety, quality, and environmental training

Participate in company planner operations training

Equipment training may include but not limited to JLP, Forklift, Non-DOT Truck, Reach Lift, Lock Out/Tag Out, etc.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to move about or to a work site by ascending/descending stairs, bending, kneeling and prolonged periods of standing and sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently

Ability to operate equipment or machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights or in confined spaces

Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 55 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 50 pounds overhead

Requires ability and willingness to wear respirators

Ability to walk up to two (2) miles during the course of a workday over uneven ground surfaces, and/or walking over Railroad tracks.
